  1. :) You can't go wrong with the Seca II if it is anything like the 1982 Yamaha Seca 650.

I had mine from (new) 1982 until 1996 ,using it very hard, mercilessly,in fact.

Nothing ever went wrong, but the rearsuspension "killed" my spine.

Upon buying a 1996 BMW R11ooR to ease the jabs up my back, I passed the Seca on to a friend who still rides it.

Tires, Battery, steeringhead bearings.... that's it.

Some day he'll have to take a sledgehammer to it, to justify buying a new bike.

    And, My God, that headlight!

Funny thing, my wife's bike was a Suzuki Tempter, 1983.

A bit of electrical problems, but a sweet and gentle machine.

Needless to say, I am still with Yamaha... 2002 FZ1 in blue :D

    Enjoy your rides.

  2. I was riding in to work one day on my RZ350 with all my flash sportbike gear on and caught up to about 20 Harleys riding 2 abreast all wearing some club colours. While hoping to find a way past (we were on a busy 2 lane rural highway) we went by 20 or so more who had stopped to wait for them. They tagged on the back and theres me all alone in the middle of a sea of straight pipes and black leather. Laughed my ass off for the next ten miles hoping the ones behind me were enjoying the smell of Motul more than I was enjoying the earthquake in front of me. As much as I wanted to, self preservation kept me from having a run down the middle.

Sounds like you were headed to Port Dover, buddy.

That is normal there and the the hundreds of heavily armed cops to look at.

    What fun.

  3. Well i have to say that im the biggest tart out there, my bike hardly ever went out if it was raining let alone snowing!

I'll go out in rain and cold, but not in snow anymore.

Here snow means salt on the road. Salt does wonders for polished aluminum

So Snowtime now is ATV time, for me.

Good for you YamaHead. But Dual-Sport bike and challenging backroads is a fine combination

that would lure me too. You have it, I don't :(

  4. It is pretty sad, that I had to be reminded of my long absence!

    Thanks for reminding :)

Now that winter is here, more time to sit at ye olde computer.

Most of my riding this year was in Georgia,Tennessee, N.Carolina,WestVirginia,Virginia,Maryland'Ohio,a bit of Pennsylvania and of course Ontario.

Total miles put on the Yamaha FZ1 , this year , about 23 000km Kilometers, not miles.

In February a few weeks in Texas. Only problem there, Battery went dead.

Got to keep them rpms up

Any cold weather riders out there?

  5. im a cider drinker

    and kronenbourg

    and straight vodka

    and wkd blue

    etc

    dont drink v often though

Since I had the "Grand tour" of Jack Daniel Distillery(in Lynchburg,TN), I "sorta" alternate between

    Jack Daniel and Bushmills.

On the other hand I have never turned down a good drink.

Take all my poison straight,no mixing/diluting here :D

    Probably keeps my arteries unclogged!

  6. Hi all hope everyone is well in Yamaha land. Went out for a tootle yesterday, bit of a shakedown run really, anyway on the way back in there is a stretch of about two miles which is pretty good for a blast to finish off. Yesterday l followed a shogun up the hill that leads to the stretch. This geezer in the Shogun suddenly became all Jenson Button after spotting me in his mirrors. What a laugh he was all over the road trying to keep me behind him. They are bloody fast them shoguns he reached nearly 90mph at one point. Laugh l nearly fell off!!! what a plonker rodney. Any other daft car stories out there

    Catch ya later.

    That's good. Here's mine:

Last year I had to rush back to the campground to beat checkout time. I live in Ontario Canada, heavily policed by Robo-cops(OPP)

So I spot a vehicle gaining on me. Oh-OOOH. I slow down a little and this yellow Pickup truck "roars" by me. That's no cop!!

I speed up and see in his rear window in big letters: Nobody wants to play with me.

I know,I am stupid, but now I am pushing him. We were doing 245 km/hr. in no time. The the next village came up and we had to be GOOD

Turned out it was a young snotnosed kid, we waved at each other ond I was off. Had to be at least supercharged.

Generation Gap? I am age 70,still enjoy a bit of speed. Made checkout time all right.

My bike is 2002 Yamaha FZ1 1000(Fazer in Europe.

  7. Amazing how the Temperature can have such an effect on things electrical!

Even though I ride everyday, year-round........the really cold spells that hit sometimes, require me to run a space heater in the Garage overnight, right next to the engine cases......which not only heats up the oil a bit, but also warms up the Ignition too........makes for alot easier starting by morning. ;)

Maybe the oil you use during the cold season is too heavy?

I had put in 10-40 last fall and my FZ1 starts fine in cold(Canadian) weather.

It is kept in an unheated shed,so temp inside and out is very close.

There is also a Motorcycle oil W0-40 Amsoil on the market. I'll be trying that out.

Having had problems with my battery(and/or charging sysyem) I played it cool today. Went for about 140km ride and took aling a fully charged spare(identical) Battery. I kept the rev's up. 4500 t0 6500 rpm.

Guess what? Nothing went wrong :o

  8. 2 piece Cordura,Good quality with removable pads and liner.

With the liner out and the vents open, the jacket is acceptable in summer.

Last year I rode for 7 hrs in the rain and stayed dry.More or less :D

Also a decent rainsuit (Hunting/ Fishing) can be bought reasonably cheap and works fine. Buy large enough to easily fit over your leathers....

Sporting Goods store Farmer's Supply etc.

  9. Hi.

I have an 03 Fazer 600 with a duff battery (26 months old, garaged over winter, connected to an optimate and still duff!)

Anybody point me towards the best place to buy a replacement please?

Also, has anybody else had a short battery life? Cheers

    I have an FZ1 (fazer 1000) 2001 with 30 000 km on it now.

Am on my 2nd Battery and it let me down recently when riding near San Antonio Texas(on Vacation)

My theory is: I might not be running at high enough rpm to charge (coming from a BMW, that is almost excusable!

But then again, for many months on end,all was fine.

Also make sure your tricklecharger has the required 14 V-15V output.

Last summer I paid Canadian$$ 207 for the sealed replacement Battery.

    Good luck, Rolf
