  1. OK, a criminal case is a little more robust than a civil case, where you just have to prove the likelyhood of him doing the damage, as opposed to beyond doubt.

Civil cases like this aren't subject to legal aid I don't think, but there are solicitors out there who will do no-win-no-fee.

Small claims is the best bet, anything under £5k has to go through small claims anyway. The upside is that it will cost you what it costs to raise the paeprwork, and you'll not get hit with any suprise costs if it doesn't go your way (in small claims each party is responsible for thier own costs), but also you cannot claim back your costs either. To make it work on county court you'd probably have to consider a class action between all those that suffered, maybe you could get the claim above £5K and then you get to recover the costs, but the wrong judgment would see you pick up the guys costs too.

On the other hand, has this guy got the assets to compensate you? if not then you really are flogging a dead horse (and maybe consider him as that horse?) as you'll not get a solicitor to go for no-win-no-fee if there's no chance of them getting the costs out of him, even if you win a small claims, he might offer to repay at £5 a week or something, and there's not alot you can do about it.

Sometimes "Shit Happens", the law is unfair and there are people who just get away with it. As for not being able to prove it was him, I'll bet a months salary that there was some evidence, shoe print, prints on broken glass, DNA you name it - if they really wanted to nail the guy they would be able to gather enough evidence (not having a go at the Police here, but the system overall).

As Goff has said on more than one accasion, go see a solicitor and check out what your options are. If you can't get into one for free the local CAB have access to one and can advise further.

On balance I think you really need to prepair yourself for the worst, you'll be hit with the bill and hell walk away scott free. If not, it's a bonus.

On another note, the nights are still dark, and it can still be slippy out there so take care no-one falls over, and get accidentaly trampled on, or breaks anything............ ;)

well there was a wkd bottle put through the window of my dads car which they failed to lift as evidence would would have been crutial to his conviction, as you said if they really wanted to nail him they would have!!my dad pointed the glass bottle out to the arresting officers and the said 'dont worry about that, we've got him!' they obviously didnt count on this guy intimidating the witnesses! but i do think its a good reflection on the way the psni operate! shit does happen and its a bloody discrace that arseholes can get away with shit like this, im sure if he had have been convicted he would have got away with a caution and a £50 fine! useless!

  2. Your after a Gianelli i see

    You Tried:

    (1998 - 2003)

    http://www.myscooterparts.co.uk/motorcycle...--2003/ge23270/

    or newer (after 2004)

    http://www.myscooterparts.co.uk/motorcycle...marked/ge23289/

Same price roughly as the DEP so dont no what its worth but there they are if you wana try,

    Glad i could help :D

turns out the Gianelli exspansion chamber is just clear laquered steel, which is a shame. Someone should make a stainless one to suit the dt, would be alot more suitable to our weather.

So who has the DEP system? and how long does it las without corroding? My DEP silencer is already corroded and rusty (the pipe before the silencer) and its just a year old. Is there any other alternatives that would last longer?

  3. yeah i realise the jets need to be different for full potential, but i figured that it'd sap power all the way thru the gears if it was just that.

I'm thinking of looking for a larger carb soon anyways, nothin drastic, just a little extra size.I also know a guy who tunes and races 2-smokes, so i might let him loose on the DT . . . :D

    Tom

I spoke to ARD racing, they can tune the dt125 for £150 vat inclusive for a stage 3 race tune. Does the guy you know do alot of work or just for his own bikes?

  4. If you have the snorkel off you will need to re jet to make the most of it otherwise your getting too much air to fuel,

does that mean that Yamaha's standard jetting isnt correct? or the jetting actually restricts it? Mine will pull 70 in 5th also but as supermotom says it will not pull as hard in 6th, i have the snorkel removed but i havent altered the jetting yet because the exhaust system is standard. maybe there is some kind of restriction in the spedo like the older dt's that we havent figured out yet?

  5. You can get a free consultation with most solicitors hun.

They will tell you in that time if you have a case and what you can do - phone a couple its worth a shot

I'l do that, although I'm also thinking of writing to the obudsman to complain about the police that were supposed to investigate the case, there was a WKD bottle used to smashe the window of my dads car and the police failed to recover this as evidence, surely they should have lifted the bottle and sent it away for finger printing, which would have resulted in an open and shut case, although they decided that a witness would have been sufficient evedince to convict the guy. They didnt count on him intimidating the witness did they?? useless wan##rs, they really anger me! if this had happened in a well to do area they would have probably taken alot more intrest in this case! but at the end of the day its us hard working folk who come out the worst!!

  6. Speak to a solicitor honey - see what they think. I hope you get it sorted cos you dont deserve this shit <<HUGS>>

I'm out of work at the minute so I dont think I can afford a solicitor just yet, although I may be able to get legal aid, but I'm not sure what way it works if I'm going to small claims court. I'l do a bit of reasearch on that 1, in the mean time I've sent the form away to the compensation agency so I'l see what they say. tanks :D

  7. Same thing got done to mine a while ago, pissed right off.

Hope you get summit back. What was the damage?

well the tank is dinged in, £550 for a new 1 from Yamaha, it can obviously be filled in and resprayed but if I'm going to be claiming I want the full amount lol. Handle bars, front fenders, side panels, headlamp was cracked, headlamp cowl snapped, seat ripped, mudguards scraped. I priced everything that was damaged from Yamaha and its going to be £1224 believe it or not

  8. No offense meant or taken. They're not bikers at all and hate the idea of me riding, hence why I only started it now that I've got the Irish Sea between us.

My dad took me to the UGP but he was there for the hospitality whilst I watched the racing (and loved the classic bikes going round). My bro was saying a week or so ago that he was representing the council at some bikingrelated event, but no idea what it was.

I'll have to ask him to tell me what's the score on the council's sponsorship - at the end of the day, I presume the council are aware that it brings people (and money!) to the area and that has to be supported.

well this is true, it brings money in, and people from all over the globe. I have met Dutch, German and Spanish peolple there. But also, we should be very proud of the heritage, the famous UGP circuit is after all the fastest circuit in the world!

  9. AHA!! We found the perfect person to pressurise for more funding then!! :D

I'm sure he meant no disrespect or offence.

It is a pity it doesnt attract more sponsors, will be even tougher after last year & in the current economic sh*tpile.

Hopefully it'll still be around for years to come, I'm looking forward to taking my sons to the racing like my dad took me.

Still have happy memories of Robert Dunlop coming thru Quarries on the Norton, flames pumping out of the pipe!!

Or James Whitham (he was Jamie in those days) binning his Durex Suzuki (insert your own joke here...) into a grass bank in similar area!

    Oh, i'm getting old.......

Remeber the Regal sponsored races that used to be held?? Why is it they pulled out of sponsorship? Is it because its a tobacco company? and if so then what are the reasons, its still allowed on formula 1 cars and moto gp etc...

  10. lol not sure how to respond to that, as my dad was a Lisburn Councillor and my brother still is!

well in that case if they are bikers we still have hope lol ofcourse I didnt mean individuals in the local government, I meant the local econemy. but I hope the UGP is around for another 10 years atleast

  11. a couple of sore knees would be compensation enough for me!

that might stop him dancing on other peoples property.

the thing is that scum these days dont have anything you can take from them, you cant take thier dole cos its needed for beer and fags, dope and whatever else their into, a good f*&%?@g kicking is in order, just dont get caught as you will get done ten times as much of what he should have got.

well as I said, I'l get him in the long grass. As for claiming I think the nio can help me but I'l know more in a couple of weeks i expect.

  12. no more bores left eek!

so i will inspect the rings tomorrow which will most likely be the cause, ill have to get some more and take my time, 500 miles is along time, how normally would rings be run in for any body else? as where i go is the mountain so that would probaly take me months to run in, going out twice a week for about 4 hours a time.

so dont be hitting the power band when sitting the rings in!

exactly, I done the exact same thing on my dtx when i had a top end rebuild, lucky enough the piston and rings werent damged but the rings had been jammed at the exhaust port side, we were able to pluck them back out and continue running it in. its very hard not to hit the powerband but you must do it to bed the rings in correclty, otherwise your asking for trouble. take a few photos when you strip the top end so we can see what has actually happened

  13. there brand new rings, it ticked over on half a tank of petrol plus a bit more, it was left about a day,

failing that how long do you need to run it to run the rings in? is it 500 miles? so just stick the back end up, 1st gear and let it spin all day?

    nightmare!

500 miles is usually correct, but you must ride it, the engine must be under load, ie riding it and keeping the revs low. Im guessing you have opened it up and the rings have nipped up on the exhaust port side, I would definately want to inspect the bore and rings if it was mine

  14. This is awful!!

Im not sure what you can do but i would have thought you wuld be in line for some kind of compensation.

A curt can award compensation and i would talk to a lawyer hun

Well I've sent away the c1 for the the compensation agency so I'l just play it by ear, I was also thinking of small claims court but apparently there wasnt sufficient evidence to prove he actually done the damage I probably wouldnt have a leg to stand on! My guess is that the owner of the flat below my dad might have been intimidated into not giving witness statements. None the less we know it was him and revenge must be sought!

  15. Last July my bike was damaged in a disturbance, it was kicked over and jumped on and alot of damage has been done. My dads car also was damaged with a brick through the window. They guy that done all this was involved in a disturbance in the flat below my dads and he was arrested. My dad wasn't in at the time, but when my dad came back there was police everywhere and asked him did he own any of the vehicles involved.

I found out today that they guy arrested for all this was not convicted, how is this possible when he was caught red handed?? I have filled in a c1 form for compensation but I'm not sure if I'l get it or not. The bike was insured 3rd party only so they probably wont pay out! How can I get what I'm owed if the legal system doesnt do its job? I't disgusts me to know that someone can do this and get away with it!

  16. I love that game! Just got the latest version - called Legends, which has older bikes too.

I'd love to see how Rossi, Stoner & some of the top circuit guys would react when introduced to NW or UGP!!

    Theres a topic to start....

I ride a 3HE FZR600 Genesis, daily rider, which I love to bits. Its in middle of a repair / upgrade at the min.

Will list pics when i get the chance.

Know Glengormley well, worked in Mallusk for over 10 years. Many a kebab I had out of Pappa's!! :)

Its a real pity that the UGP is struggling so much, its such an amazing event and would be a real loss if it faded like so many other road races have.

Dunno how familiar you are, but the old version of the circuit they used was even more insane, espec the section round the 7 Mile Straight area.

Well I'm sure you guys know that the NW200 is all about the money, its became too comercialised! when you have a look about during race week, alot of people are just there to drink and cause trouble and make a mess! I was camping near Mathers Cross about 6 or 7 years ago and it was brilliant. There was barrels and a big stack of fire wood you could have your own camp fires, you could drink and everyone had a great laugh.

Last time I was up there arent any fires, you cant bring your own drink unless you buy it from the beer tent. I was told I wasnt allowed glass bottles in but when you went to the beer tent they were selling glass bottles of Stella and WKD. And the lads running security were complete dicks! Local gangsters probably! They threatened to remove us from the site because we lit our bbq and there was a few flames. My dad protested and ended up getting grabbed by the throat by one of the 'security' needless to say we told them to f##k away off!

I still go up but I much prefere hanging my head out of the bushes just past the exit of the hairpin at the Ulster! If they get rid off the UGP it will not be due to 'safety' issues, it will be because its not generating the sponsors and local government enough cash!!

    long live the UGP!

  17. I know the standard size main is a 195 on the 12A UK bikes, but the full power 10W uses a 155 as standard, this is whats confusing me.

that does sound strange, you would think the full power model would have a bigger jet to the standard one, maybe it has a different carb or it could have a bigger diameter. sorry I cant help, I've no experience with RD's yet. Have you fitted the Micron and ran the bike yet to see what way its running?

  18. I'm dead jealous of you folks - I move from NI and then take up biking  . From Lisburn originally, so would love to do the Dundrod area on a bike!

Hope you get the answers you want re: the UGP and good luck.

Cheers, even if I cant get out for the pre il get out a Kirkistown, its a shame if the bike isnt raced, so I keep telling my dad lol

  19. He has a 1934 250 MAC & a 350 MOV from the fifties.

I'm not sure about the racing license, you'd be best to contact some of the officials, or maybe UGP supporters club

I see, both very valuble bikes, my dads has a 350 racer and a 350 venom, one is an mac and the other is ktt, I could be mistaken on that but I know the racer is quite special, I hope to get out on it this year, maybe get down to Kirkistown for a run and see how she goes!
