I've been riding a Honda Ruckus for like 2 years now and finally decided to upgrade to a real bike. I heard a lot of great things about the XJ650/Maxim so I thought it would be a great starter bike. I've owned it for about 2 hours now and I find myself on the message boards already. Long story short, I spent about an hour riding in a parking lot learning the clutch and gears etc and just getting used to a 453 pound bike as opposed to my 193 pound scooter. Everything went well. I parked the bike and went to show it off to my neighbor and tried to fire her up and she won't start. Starter just clicks and check oil light flashes. It was a warm day here in VA...mid 80's. Maybe…

Howdo all, I'm iSoupz! Been riding a Suzuki GZ125 for a while, but I've got myself a Yamaha XJ600N tucked away somewhere for when I pass my test - I guess that's like saying I'm saving the good cutlery for if the Queen comes to visit, but y'know... So, to sum up: Hello. I was never very good at introductions. |:

Hey, I just thought I would come and say Hi. I have just bought a Yamaha XVS 125 Dragstar to practice on before doing my Full Test. I couldn't think of a better way to start my biking career than to join this site. Lee

Help everyone, I am new to the site and new to older Yamaha's. Good at restoring older 4 wheel cars, now its time to work on a two wheel. Jut picked up a lightly abused 84 fj 600 and getting ready to bring it back to its glory. First part getting the engine running. And for those that don't know, Motor city is good old Detroit MI USA. -dragun

...I'm new, obviously. Just bought a delicious XV. I caught the tuning/modding virus years ago, so I doubt it'll stay factory standard for too long. I've already been looking at swapping sprockets... Are the XV125 and the XV250 front sprockets interchangeable?

  12. Hello all and any who take the time to read this. This will be my first summer riding. Im really excited and slightly nervous. Ive talked a great deal about riding with my roomate and he has both glorified and demonized the hobby. I didnt let the cons scare me off however, and I recently bought a project bike. Said bike is a 1983 Yamaha XV750 Virago Midnight Special, 1 of 2300(I believe made that year, and the last year they were made in the 750cc range). I didnt want to buy a little bike and get sick of it 3 months later as I have read many do so frequently. So I chose a size that best fits my body type and something I will be able to enjoy (once it runs of course) for s…

  14. Started by Si_Co,

Wotcha everyone. My name is Si and I'm new to the club. I decided to do my CBT at the begining of November having never ridden a motorbike before, to satisfy my mid-life crisis. That is not as bad as it sounds. Kids have grown up and are going to Uni, leaving me, a single middle-aged bloke, with loads of time on my hands (I do shift work) and working through a bucket list. I was talked into buying the YBR125 by the bloke in the shop where I bought my helmet and gear from. I've only done about 300 of the 600 running in miles and have to keep the rev's low, but thats just as well, as I am using the bike to commute the 8 miles to work and back plus the odd weekend fun run…

  15. This is literally JUST an interest thread, this is not me advertising my services. I'm looking to branch out into the above. I was thinking that some of the more popular/expensive parts such as seat cowls and possibly race noses for the bikes such as R125's, R1's, R6's and so on...so they can be interchanged on track days and so on. Also replacement panels to cut down on the cost of replacing with new if need be. Also vinyl wrapping, singular parts, whole bikes and so on. I simply need to get an idea of what level of interest there would be and then go corporate on here (I believe in paying my dues!) and going from there. Let me know in this thread, no p…

Evening all! I have had my WR125R for around 7 months now... And I'm loving it!! It's an awesome bike, it has presence and even though it's only a 125 the bike is surprisingly big, with a high riding position it suits me perfectly! Though I am hoping to get my full license by the end of the year so I can get something with a bit more grunt!! I just want to give a quick shout out to blackhat250 and noise for helping me on another thread! Glad to be a part of the motorcycling community! Thanks guys Sainz

Hi folks, recently sold the R1, It was killing my wrists leaning over the tank all the time, (im not 20yrs old any more). So, i`v got myself a xvs 1100, 24000 on the clock, 2 lady owners, and a custom airbrush job on the tank, (which has got to go) its not really a guys thing, but it is very well done and it seems a pity to spray over it, i will try to upload a pic. If there are any lady bikers out there with the same bike who would like to swap tanks, I don't mind if its all black or black and red like mine, anyway enough of this, I road this bike from gloucester (where i live) to the Ace cafe in London then on to Brighton ( 2011 Brighton burn-up ) wat a change from t…

  19. Started by Chris M,

Hi I am a new member and just returned to biking after many years. Bought my bike 6 months ago, so out of warranty. Took my bike out yesterday no problems throughout the day. Got home washed it all over sponge, brush, hose on light spray (not sure if this is relevant). Went to start it and got a buzzing noise like a wasp in a jam jar from the lefthand side, rev counter showing 4k and the oil light coming on but the engine would not turn over. Any help or advice would be gratefully received Chris
