I am a second class petty officer in the US Navy on a destroyer based out of Washington state. I learned to ride on a vstar 250 virago. I currently own a 74 enduro dt 125 and a vstar 950 tourer. the virago was sold back in november to step up to the 950. the enduro is kind of dead right now but i'm trying to fix it.

I just went and looked at a old Yamaha 1100 it is supposed to be a 1978 and the VIN has me confused. 2H7-008792 (etched on the engine). All I can find is a 2H8 at all for a Yamaha anything It has a few issues like surface rust on all the chrome and a rear brake that has the cylinder froze up but it is pretty much all there and does turn over and doe seem to have compression. Before I dig it out and spend all my time and money on it I would like to know more about what it actually is. I already read that some of the 78's were actually made in 1979 for instance. It has leaky carbs but seems to have ran recently. The original gas tank is there but not the one on the b…

Hello, I am a new member located in Denver, Colorado. I inherited a 1982 DT100 from my son. It was his first bike and he moved to a larger one. I must admit I have always been a Honda guy (1976 XL100, 1973 CB125, 1974 Trail 90), but I have a special connection to the DT100. In the summer after High School graduation, 1977, my buddy bought a DT100 and convinced me (didn't take much) to buy a bike and take it up to his family cottage in Michigan's Upper Peninsula for the month of August. I found the XL...only a year old with less than 2000 miles on it for $300. Amazing how fast bikes depreciated back then! When the time came I took off the front wheel and ha…

Hello I looked at a 2003 Dragstar 1100 today. Only 10,000 miles with chrome everything, which I dislike but my main concern is the raked out front end. It's a wide glide type conversion. It feels like it wants to drop into corners but it doesn't actually do it. Do you think it's a good bike for 2 up riding medium distances. I'm 97kg and my partner is 60kg. I'm coming from a GSX1400 which handles very well. Hills/mountains and passengers make no difference to the performance or ride. Thanks

Hey there, I might be returning to the Yamaha fold after a few years away. Started off with an RXS100N back in the 90's, and got an FZR1000R-W ExUP just after I passed my test. Other bikes I've owned in order or purchase: 1979 Moto Guzzi V50/II 1982 Suzuki GSX400FX (bag of dog egg!) 2008 Haotian Swift (don't bother looking it up ) 2007 Moto Guzzi Griso G11 2014 Zontes ZT125-8A Whilst the Guzzi G11 is my dream bike and I will never ever part with it, I am looking to get a superbike for thrashing fun and maybe the occasional trackday. I cherish the G11 way too much to punish it in that way. I tortured my poor FZR1000R, but intend to treat whichever b…

Dug a free bike out of a backyard. Had some bees in the bonnet, literally, and ivy growing through just about every bit of it. Apparently a tree got knocked down on either side of it, and it's been pinned until recently ever since hurricane Isabel ripped through my part of Virginia. It's now sitting comfortably under the eaves of my smithy, and I'm planning a full frame-off. I have a feeling my TIG welder and 3-axis mill are going to get a workout on this one. I have a friend with a 3D printer that does ABS plastic like a dream, might wind up with a few custom made parts too. The original tank doesn't leak, frame's solid, if a bit rusty (surprisingly less than I'd exp…

Hi everyone, I'm a bit new to this so please bear with me!. I recently bought a 2007 DTX and I'm really pleased with it. Ater buzzing around for a couple of weeks I started to fiddle around a bit to improve performance. It has a full Dep exhaust system fitted and the restrictor wire mod to the speedo has been done. I was convinced that it was still heavily restricted however so I took off the exhaust (needed derusting anyway) and had a look up to check the position of the power valve ( as recommended on one of these forums ~ thanks). Looked like the valve was retarded so after noticing the locking pin section had broken off anyway (previous owner?) I undid the centre bol…

As I have just discovered, just popping up, asking a question and fucking off is a tad rude, especially if a small introduction is then made as a second thought, so this is me trying to do it properly. My real names Steve, I've had a few bikes over the years, vfr 400, bandit 600, z750 and a handful of nice little 125's but recently the zephyr died and with the non too far off arrival of our first born, have been told, in the most loving of ways of course, that we need a car ( it's sensible ) and can't really afford a bike bike at the mo. Well, after much deliberation we came to a compromise, and I'm allowed a baby dragstar 125 that I can then chop the living daylights…

Hi all, I just purchased a very abused Chappy to bring it back to life with the help of my 10 and 5 year old sons. After taking it all apart I am finding lots of issues. Should be fun. I am hoping I can lean on your expertise a bit. I have a picture attached of how the bike looked when we brought it home. Thanks for your help. https://www.dropbox.com/s/oprvcxslo7rqb6m/Chappy02.jpg Jeroen

Hi all! Just picked-up an N-reg YZF750R, looking forward to using her properly... however, one niggle... the front brakes have no 'feel', no 'bite'... they work, but I don't like how they feel. The bike has had recent brakes front and rear (the rear feels fine, it's the front brakes I'm not happy with) and was MOT'd with no advisories just before I picked her up. I reckon it's the pads that have been used (no idea what make they are), maybe they just need bedded in... anyway, could anyone advise if this is 'normal' on YZF's? Or what make / type of front pads would be a good choice to get bite and feel? Thanks all, Gary

Just a quick hello. I'm new to the motorbiking game. Got myself a cheap Yamaha SR 125 1993 model off ebay, spent the last two half days getting rid of the rust and touching up bits of paint work, now it's looking pretty good. I don't have a photo as of yet but I might stick one up tomorrow if I can. Paid less than £400 for it. Looking to get out on to the road as soon as the rest of my gear comes, helmet for example. Cheers.
