  2. Hi I am new to this forum I have put a miller slip on exhaust on my XVS 1300 and it sounds great I was told by a mechanic that I had to put a power commander v on the bike because Yamaha run on top end of lean so I have done that . I have downloaded the maps for the commander there is about 14 maps for the make and model and year of my bike, none of which are for the miller slip on , there is vance & hines cobra but to name a few . I have tried most of the maps, most of them make the bike miss at low revs in traffic . is there a map for this miller slip on out there somewhere. and did I need a power commander in the first place ?? any feed …

Hey Guys. I'm working on the 650 and am having trouble with the whole engine cut out system. Its a 97 4VR2 XVS 650. checking through the usual culprits the neutral switch was worn so this has been replaced. All clutch ,sidestand, ignition and kill switch check out as ok. However I can only start the bike when the sidestand is up ( in neutral or gear with the clutch pulled in. The moment I go to put the sidestand down the engine cuts out even when in neutral. My thinking is this, when the sidetand is put down the relay must think it is in gear and cuts in as it is meant to. The relay checks show that their is no continuity in either diode direction , which suggest someth…

  6. Hi, The indicators on the Virago XVS250 are in just the wrong position to fit decent sized panniers. Now this bike is no long-distance tourer, but I would like to take it on the occasional short camping trip. Has anyone moved the indicators to the back of the rear mudguard / fender(?) ? My idea this would clear an area to fit a rack that would attach to the hole in the rear mudguard previously used by indicator. Regards, Clive

Does anyone know of a UK source of lower wind deflectors for a V Star 1100 please? Everything I've come across so far has been in the USA with silly postal charges!

Hello everyone, have been very quiet, but still reading posts. But now i need some advice. I had my bike (xvs 650) painted a short while ago, and now i seem to have a leak on the fuel selector valve. Difficult to pinpoint exactly where. Strangely the stuff leaking looks more like oil (a bit yellowish) than fuel. smells like fuel though, and i cannot imagine it being something else. I removed the valve (thats what i think its called) with the 2 screws, and later just put it back. Was i suppose to change any seals or so? thx Peter

I'm curious. Do both cylinders fire on the same revolution or on alternate revolutions? Ditto for the Harleys, as they seem to have a different sound.

Hi, Out of interest, when you look at the front of the bike, the left hand "pod" above the cylinder and below the fuel tank contains the air filter. What does the similar looking right-hand side "pod" contain? Thanks, Clive

Having owned my XVS for just over a month now, it's time to start making some changes as I'm not a fan of all the chrome, so am after some guidance really as to how best achieve this without breaking the bank...if that's possible! I'm unsure about how to modify the rear. I'd like to get rid of that horrible huge back mudguard (or fender as some prefer), and replace it with something smaller and lower in gloss black. My girlfriend sometimes goes on the back, so I'd like to retain a neat pillion seat of sorts, just not the studded YMCA cushion and sissy bar it has fitted at present! If I can find something that's easy to swap so provides a seat for her on the odd o…

  15. Hi, The right-hand wing mirror on my Virago XV(S)250 is stuck in one place (out-of-place, having been knocked when parked). There are two nuts underneath the mirror "stem". When adjusting the position of the mirror I don't want to force and strip the thread - especially where the stem inserts is all part of a handlebar attachment including the brake fluid topup (sorry for technically incorrect words). Which way do I loosen the nuts and in which order, so I can adjust the position of the mirror? Thanks, Clive

  16. Electrics, always electrics. (Except when it is water leaks at home) Fixing earlier problems, I have cleaned the headlight flasher switch and replaced the horn. The new horn is a bit toot-tooty but it's plenty loud enough. Now, the horn, indicators, rear brake light and neutral jewel lamp all run through the same 10A fuse. I know this because the fuse blew about a month ago. Now with no apparent trigger and at an unknown time, but at least once, sometimes twice, per one hour ride, all the electrical devices running off that 10A fuse stop working. I know this because the indicator jewel light stops flashing, the indicators don't work and the neut…

Recently bought a V Star 1100 Classic with only 5200 miles on it. The rear tyre had already been changed and the front, presumably original Dunlop D404 is down to 2mm already. This doesn't seem very clever at all to me. My last bike, a Hinckley Bonny on Metzelers still had lots of meat left after 6300miles and it seemed to me that it would be good for 10k, maybe more. What should be a decent mileage for a V Star and what tyres would you guys recommend, for good mileage, handling and grip, please?

  18. Hello everyone, As of yesterday I am now the proud owner of a BEAUTIFUL XVS 1100 Custom in red/black. It's been a while since I last owned a bike (10 years!) as where I've been living had nowhere to keep a bike, but now I've moved and have a garage I thought it only right I fill it with things that bring me joy. It'll also give my Dad someone else to go out with, as he's just bought a Valkyrie. A question I wanted to ask, as I need to get insurance sorted, is does anyone know if a Remus exhaust system adds bhp or does it just create the wonderful sound I first experienced on the test ride? It seems some insurers won't insure the bike if the exha…

As the XVS650 only has a side stand I am looking for a way to get the bike stood upright for working on it, Ideally a DIY option as I can't really warrant spending any cash on a bespoke lift at this point due to uncertainty at work. I have a trolley jack, axle stands and a bottle jack and some nice length of timber approx. 5" x 1" as well as other odds and ends Any DIY ideas and where to actually jack it from.
