  4. I'm getting a XT550 soon, I'm not sure which year it is. The guy I'm getting it from tells me the battery keeps discharging and it can be difficult to start. Could be a bad battery or something draining it - is this common? I'm getting a really good deal on it, so it's a no-brainer decision. I've read a little about them on the Interweb; they seem like decent bikes, not going to win any races or anything, but looks like fun. Is there anything I should look out for?

    Hi all, ive got an 04 DT125RE, i want to change the nobblies to road tyres, can anyone recommend a certain tyre....? also can the tyres go straight onto the origional rim or do i have to get a whole new wheel set as my mate had to on his kmx......? cheers guys!

    Hello one and all, new to this forum. I have an old G reg XT600z it needs some work, to get it in tip top condition. Im thinking of taking it on a LONGGGGGGG tour to India. What are your thoughts on such a bike doing such a long distance tour. Also if i do decide to do this, i will need some help with reconditioning the bike and getting it ready is there anyone out there who could help, for a small charge of course. Many thanks Realy want you good and bad comments on this. Otherwise i need to buy something like Goldwing or BMW?

    when i got this bike i tore down the top end, only to find the piston in backwards and a very shoty base gasket . after looking closely and picking alot of old gasket material out of the oil journals and transfer ports i reassembled with new base gasket. and it still wont so much as fire. I also cycled through the timing and not a sputter. does anyone know about what these should have for compression.

    does anyone know if the engine mounting is the same on a gt 80 frame as it is on a new engine. i want to take my gt rolling frame and put a different engine in it and was wondering if like a yz 125 engine or something would fit or could be made to fit.

    I have just removed the powervalve on my DT200 for a clean , like a dipstick I didn't note which way up it was. Should it be fitted with the convex machined side uppermost ?

    hello, i have an old 87 dt. the prob i have is that there is an air pocket in the fuel line from the tank to the carb? if i remove the fuel line from the carb the air pocket gets pushed out and feul flows how it should? as soon as line is put back on carb the air pocket returns? any help please as i'm stumped?????

    well my cylinder is 70mm bore but the piston is stamped 0.50mm and the #1 or 4 followed by 52p2 is stamped at the top. I have sent for a new 70mm piston, but wanted to know were this other piston is from. any ideas???????

    hi all im new here but have been looking at and reading the forum to try and find help. i have a DTR 125 1999. and after reading somewhere cant remember where it seems the headlight is running of the engine as all the other lights work without the engine have to be started bike starts and runs fine but the headlight keeps dimming as the Rev's are let off which makes it hard to see at night at times i would be greatful for any help

    hi everyone, im just back from trail riding with my friend. he has a ty175 of 1978 or so and i have a 1976 dt175. he have headlight and i dont, so its sucks at night the fact is i have no headlight since the last one burned out (the headlight and bulb only make one) and i would like to just replace the set with a new one. the thing is i run the dt with no battery, so i should i set my thing so that i dont blow my bulbs. please dont tell me just to put a resistor in the line, what wattage and 6v bulb should i use and inline with what resistance. thanks !     Hi again, Can anybody tell me the best way and easiest way to check or replace the oil in my front forks on my DT 125 as the suspension is vey soft and bottoms on grids etc. Can someone recommend a suitable oil to put in them,im 6ft and around 80kg so im not massive but dont want an oil that will make it to hard at the front end. Thanks for any help. Carl

    Can anyone point me towards a wiring diagram for a 1987 XT 225, please? I have a Haynes manual that covers 1989 onwards but the wiring is different. The first two years, '87 & 88, I believe, were kickstart only and the CDI had only six wires, later ones in the manual have starters and nine wires out of the CDI. I have had to replace the CDI with a modern unit and I tried to match wire colours, new with old, but it is apparently not that simple. Just to make things difficult, my bike is a Japanese grey import. After I get it running properly my first modification is to fit a big soft saddle to better fit my anatomy, twenty road miles is awful on the hard knobby…

    Just a quick one, Has anybody ever increased the length of the spacer at the top of the front suspension legs to make the suspension stiffer. As using a thicker oil would only slower the rebound im thinking of inreasing the length of the top spacer with washers or a longer tube to harden the downward pressure, Anyone with any thoughts or tried this.
