    Having a little problem with the restored '79 DT175MX. With new bore/piston/rings the bike starts and runs very well until it gets warm after say 10 miles or so. At this point if you put the bike under load at speed at say 4000 RPM it sounds as though it is blowing from the head or pinking? once the bike cools down its back to 100% OK. I have had the top end off and all things seem fine (Gaskets, rings, torqued heads, standard factory exhaust,etc), Carb is not blocked. I am running the bike without the autolube at 25:1 mix with quality semi synthetic 2T oil.. Is it running lean and perhaps needs rejetting without the autolube? DO I need to block the autolube pipe?     Nearly finised my DT 175XM and am trying fo find some new original looking tyres. Its easy to adopt alternative 'paw print'but ideally I'm looking for the square pattern in 2.75x21 front and 3.5x18. Have ben searching for some time but the size and pattern keps turning up zip. (Tried V Rubber -close but wrong size and stopped making them) assistance,ideas very welcome. Tks

    First of all Im new to the forums & Just like to say Hey to every1 who reads this , Now im looking for Someone with a bit of mechanical knowledge, I bought a yamaha dt 125 And the first thing i did was drop the gearbox oil , & put fresh in , But as i took the oil out i noticed something a little out of the ordinery , the oil coming out was GREY! , Now ive seen black and thats when it definatly needs to be changed , & if its a goldie colour its ok !? I may be wrong , Please please please someone help as i am totally lost as to why its this colour All the Best James

    Lads and ladies, I need to replace the seat cover as it has slight hole in it and me being anal about getting the bike looking nice I now need to either replace or repair the seat cover, I had a quote to replace it at £130 with something different but i think i can get original yam at £80 but it will need fitting so again total about £100 plus. Looking at either repair in midlands or alternative to yam original - and grey (Again im anal) did look at ebay but they dont do it in my colour. I am willing to look at another colour if it looks good just dont say things like purple that wont match a red bike.

    Hi, people. Have bought recently Yamaha TTR250 Raid for my out of city activities. I used a bike without registration one year and now I need to register it. But police tells me that without No. of engine they will not register it. I have only frame VIN and just 4GY (just four letters) for the engine. Police tells that I need to show them 9 digits at least on the engine. That is just ridiculous situation. The year of origin of my bike is 1992. Any help or explanation will be highly appreciated.

    hello to all,have just recently joined this site and have a problem on my bike,its a 95 import xt6ooe and the battery discharges itself over a day or two.it is a new battery of the correct type and when ignition is off the neutral light goes off and nothing works.i have checked the coils in the generator and they have a resistance of .3 ohm which is a little low but my meters lowest setting is 200 ohm so its close enough i hope.is there a possibility of the rectifier/regulator going to ground as that looks like the only component that is fed from the battery when ignition is off.thanks paul.

    hi i just thought i would share some pics of my old dt,me and my m8 are in the progress of getting back on the road. it will be hvn a full engine rebuild new crank bearings ,seals,new big end,conrod lil end piston etc etc.crank is off to pjme for rebuild and set up this week.new black seat cover,new tyres wheel bearings etc.will have new chain and sprockets.stickers removed, hopefully will be a nice bike when complete. these are some pics before we started will hopefully post some more when complete <the crappy old number plate will be going in the bin

    Ok then, having completely refurbed the DT, got it mot'd, I'm now rediscovering my youth bouncing down the green lanes. Yumps, berms and streams, I'm still cocking them all up. However, something went wrong with the electrics yesterday, in that there aren't any. Battery has a full charge, and the main fuse is fine. Engine starts no problem, but lights, horn, indicators and instrument lights are completely dead. All connectors were corrosion free following the rebuild. I guess something has come loose somewhere. Any suggestions on where to start? Any help gratefully accepted. Lee

    Good evening all, I've read JW896's post of 02/09/2010 but still have some questions. I've just put the top end back together after a rebore ( got a new barrel dowel, from Yambits, as I was told to, thanks Oldgit ). Q1) On checking the oil pump "minimum stroke" the gap was at 0.55mm and had 8 shims. Haynes say it should be 0.20 to 0.25mm. I removed 4 shims and the setting is now 0.20mm. What I can't get my head round is this... when the gap was bigger, was I pumping more oil or less oil? Q2) Oil pump cable adjustment...     Hi everyone! I'm new on this forum, but I am part of a few others so I know my way around a little. Anyway I got a 1974 MX250 a while back and it wasn't running when I got it. I have it stripped down, frame and engine re-painted and put pack together but now I'm trying to get it to run. The problem I'm having is I have the inner rotor type ignition system, which requires an 8 wire CDI, but the CDI on the bike is for the outer rotor system which only has 7 wires. I've read time and time again that you can make them work just by grounding the extra lead off the ignition, but the wiring has been messed with so much that I can't tell what's supposed to go where.     I am needing some spares for my XT at the moment chain, sprockets etc but I am trying to date it so I can get the right bits. I have the Clymer manual for it which gives the codes for frame numbers to date it but I am not having much luck ! All I can find is the metal plate at the side of the headstock with numbers and letters. The logbook is nt much use as it seems the bike was registered later, I am guessing its an import as the clock is kph not mph. Any ideas ?
