good afternoon, thanks again for the help with the "dt 50 mx breakdown". Although after getting it going again the same thing happened but this time I cleaned the carb drained the fuel tank, checked the filters, checked the barrel for any crap and just generally gave it a thorough rountine maintenance job, now it will start but as soon as it fires up, it dies again. I managed to get it going for ten mins or so and the same thing happened, then it was back to starting and instantly dieing again. any suggestions would be a great help because after the ammount of money i keep throwing at it i am seriously considering leaving it on the train tracks, cheers, Jack. by…

I know its a slightly odd question and i think i've put it up before many moons ago but! Anybody out there know what causes a 2 stroke to 4stroke. Sounds stupid i know. My DT does it even after the rebuild. Runs smooth with big throttle but chugging in traffic and it starts to 4 stroke, its like a misfire but not. More every other ignition is a bit lacking and the engine gets a bit arsy. Like when they are full of smoke in the first 500yrds when they are cold. I know she started her life on the enduro circuit and i've been less than kind but i'm curious. I can wind the throttle fully open uphill into the wind from 20mph in top and she will pull cleanly right up …

Anyone know the chain 'Gauge' on a 2009 xt660z tenere? Trying to buy a chain riveter and it specifies it will work on chains '420 to 530'. Is the tenere in that range and does it really matter? Cheers

Hello gents, just a couple of quick questions i have about my DT... Having a small issue when accellerating in most gears, she gets up to when the powervalve should be opening (around the 7500rpm mark) and it coughs and splutters, and struggles to get past. The bike has done just over 10,000 miles, and I'm guessing the powervalve may well need a clean? However, Someone has suggested I may need to upjet? If so, what size should the full power jets be? Pretty sure I have the OEM carb on the bike. Also, the random black vacuum box that goes into the carb manifold... whats the purpose? Just out of interest, I have no need/interest to remove it. I'm basically trying t…

Got a question about the oil pump on a '78 DT175. If the oil tank were located lower than the pump will it suck the oil up or is it strickly a push pump? I'm building a street trike andwish to install an oil tank farther back and lower under the solo seat I've built. the tank top would be about even with the inlet to the pump as far as height goes so it would need to pump up a 6-8 inch incline max. Thanks for your time guys My link

Hi! Anybody have any idea why the BREATHER SKU: 583-15371-00-00, hose SKU: 90445-07040-00 (L510)and clamp SKU: 90465-10096-00 seem to be missing on 1978 YAMAHA DT 400s? There is a provision on the magneto cover where the breather would go but there is no hole their! I checked out some close up pictures of other 1978 Yamaha dt 400s and it is the same as mine. If you check the parts diagram at http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx it is supposed to be their. I am not sure if all 1978 dt 400s do not have it or just some. I believe it lets moiture escape due to condensation from the stator/magneto compartment. I just wanted to see if anybody…

Hello ladies and gents, i baught a dt 125 re 2007 3 days ago, paid £1500 it has 9k miles and looked like a bargin, i came home went on a ride to hear a strange knocking, also to notice the breaks sticking, anyways i was stressy and listed the bike to sell as i have no patience to fix or spend money i dont have on a bike, so 3 hours ago people came to view the bike, he said he was a bike mechaninc, he said the top end bearings are gone and that the powervalve or somthing isnt connected or giving me power, im more than confused about whats going on and i dont want to end up pumping cash into this bike, also i no shops will charge me a easy £100+ just to look and maybe fix t…

Hi all, firstly i'll introduce myself, Im simon i'm 32 years old and about to get my first road leagal bike. I grew up riding bikes on fields from the age of 10 right up until i got my car licence at 17. I've now decided to buy a bike as i've always liked them, they're cheap motoring and fun, initially i was going to buy a dragstar 125 but got let down by the seller at the last minute, i've now decided to go for a DT and i have a choice of two, number one is a 1999 DT 125 R with 9000 miles, full dep sport in great condition, number two is a 2004 DT 125 RE with 9000 miles, full dep sport and great conditon, they are both of very similar price. so which is the better…

Hi guys, I was wondering if someone could tell me what the symptoms of a slipping clutch are and how to adjust it? I took my bike for a short, 3 mile ride yesterday and it seemed to be working fine, but when I fired it up today, it had some difficulty idleing in gear and was very unresponsive - almost as if it wasn't getting enough gas. Is this a clutch or carb issue? What are some steps to correct it? Thanks!

hi!! just bought a dtr125 2003. there's no pattern just does it as and when it likes, some times when pulling away or when your in 3rd gear reaching 8rpm! always random, the previous owner did say it hasn't been serviced for a while. so tomorrow i'll give her a full serivce! it also has a aftermarket exhuast on it, so would i need to check that it's jetting ok? but surely the previous owner would of sorted this as it's been owned by the guy from new! and by the looks of the exhuast it's been on there a few years! thanks josh

hi i have a 2006 xt660r its done 14000 miles and its started to clunk when i put in gear. i have looked at it and found that there is about 10mm plus backlash on the small chain sprocket. could this be down to the clutch basket starting to wear due to running in to high a gear at low revs or is it a common problem with big singles what other things should i check

Been out a couple of times for group rides with lads on much newer bigger four strokes, and could not help feel the old dt was getting a pasting. Inevitably ill end up buying a WR soon enough, but would like to still use the DT as it was intended. Wanting to keep things as standard as possible, what can be done to improve the off road capability? And as for tyres I struggled to get any modern 4 inch enduro tyres to fit with out the outer knobs fouling, so ended up with a very soft michelin trials in the back for mot purposes. Admittedly it does look the part, but wont last long on tarmac! What tyres come recommended for greenlaning with a medium dose of tarmac?
