I'm looking for some new tires for my XT550 (3.00x21 FR, 4.60x18 RR). I don't plan on doing much on road riding, so I'm considering some dirt only tires for max dirt traction. Are there dual purpose tires that are as agressive as dirt tires? I've been looking around online, but the pictures make it kind of difficult to tell how agressive the dual sport tires really are.

  4. hi i have a 86 yamaha tt600 that runs like a bat out of h*** but if you let it idle or come down to an idle it usual stalls after you have been riding about 10-15 minits weather you ride it hard or just let it idle.the main problem is when it does stall you have to wait about 15 minits before you can start it and it starts in 1 or 2 kicks. when i pull the spark plug it is sooty, carburetor is still cold, still has very good compression, and piston is not stuck in the bore. i have been working on this for a couple weeks and every thing that i see is saying it is too rich like sooty plug after stall and black smoke at and just off idle. but every thing i read about jetting …

Hi guys I've got a severe lack of lighting on my XT350, they were working up until recently when both front and tail lights have failed. On this bike the lights only work when the engine is running (the neighbours love me when I'm trying to sort this out, loud pipe and ticking over for hours!!) I've checked the wiring back through the loom for continuity with a multimeter and all is ok and I also tried running a live feed from the battery to the lighting circuit and everything works so traced it back through and there doesn't appear to be any voltage coming from the lighting coil, the manual say's to check the charging coil and i get a reading of 00.4 ohms with the…

Been reading up on it, most say its a restrictor but some complained that they had lost a few mph off their top speed once they had cut it off, has anybody got a real picture of what the intake manifold actually looks like with the 'restrictor' still attached? All i have to go by is the amatuer drawing on dtr125.net, is it possible that this is to help the air-flow not restrict it OR maybe the people who removed it lost power because it was a restrictor but now their bike is running too lean and all they need to do is upjet the feel the benefits, can anyone help me to make the decision to cut it off or leave it be?

Howdy after a google search in hope of finding out more information on DT 125's I came across this club figured I'd sign up, looks to be a cool place to pick up knowledge. Bought an 07 DT125X at the weekend it's being delivered on Thursday whoop! I'm not sure whether I've paid over the odds or not at £2795, not really bothered tbh lol. The bike has done 2042 miles looks immaculate not a mark, scratch, dint bit of rust anywhere the previous owner has gone overboard with mods, brake lines, dep exhaust, renthal bars etc. The dealer I bought it from said the previous owner has also modified some part of the engine so its become a full powered version?? When asked a…

Hi, have just got my DT175MX running again, see previous threads, and I keep feeling for a bigger gear when riding in top. As far as I know I am on standard chain sprockets for a 125. Is the 175 different and if not which way do I go, bigger front sprocket or smaller rear. Anyone know, done it before? Thanks Phil

  13. I just bought these two bikes. 1987 YZ250 1986 TT225 They look similar, I don't have them at my house now, but I believe (from what I read online ONLY)that the TT225 is four stroke and the YZ is 2 stroke. Other than that, they look very similar. Is there any info on the TT225 that I should know? I couldn't seem to find much information on the internet. Thanks!

I have a DT175 from '74 that I recently bought for $50. It does NOT have a title. (May be able to get one, but I had it for a parts bike for my titled 1972 125 AT2). Problems: Lights/gauges/blinkers are mostly removed/smashed. No chain - Wasn't there No back break (the cable at least) No seat mounting pieces/hardware The break and seat parts I took off for my AT2. The engine does turn over, and I believe it is complete. Doesn't look too great, but I have some spare new parts for the AT2 from the previous owner that may also work for it. I will use it for ONLY offroad, not road use. So the lights/key-ignition/blinkers/speedo don't matter to me. Is it w…

Ok, so I have a DT200R '88. It's an old dirt bike but it's scrubbing up nicely. I've been rooting around with the jets and finally got it working properly (it now starts 1st or 2nd kick and runs with the choke off). This is a big step up from a bike that was a complete bitch to start and stalled 500m down the road. Anyway, MY IDLE! I can't seem to get a nice smooth idle in the low revs. I can keep it so it will idle a bit too high than what I'd like and then if it goes a bit lower it goes a LOT lower and needs prodding to keep it ticking over. I'm not sure what choices I'm left with. The idle screw is very far in to keep it running, way more than I'd like but as …

Hey all Im doing a very long tour soon with the missus which includes some very cold weather. We both have heated gloves vests and insoles. I have an 09 XT660Z Tenere and am a bit worried about the amp drain of all this apparel on the battery. Does anyone know if this will be to much draw for the battery in cold weather or as it is a new bike will it be ok? Cheers.

I got a 1974 DT175 that had been converted to a dirtbike(no lights or battery). The wiring has been redone and seemed to work fine before, as I had it running with this configuration, but after I've spent some time fixing various things on the bike(but not messing with the electrical system other than changing the spark plug), I can't get any spark. Can anyone tell me what electrical component could have failed or where the problem might be?

Hi guys, I'm looking for some advice here. I have swapped over the head, piston and barrel from a DT 125 onto my DT 175 - reason being I never passed my test years ago, so I can run this legally when the DVLA chamge the engine size. I know I should really put a 125 carburetor on it but I'm hoping I can use my existing 175 one by changing the jetting. Looking at the specs in the Haynes manual the only difference parts seem to be the Main Jet (110 and 130) and the Needle Jet (N-4 and 0-2). Is this as simple as it looks? Change these two and it should be run okay? If so, does anybody know where I can get a Needle Jet? I think I've seen Main Jets at Yambits but not the Needle…
