well, its been a while since i have been here. so i should explain myself. first off my little dt175 is binned for the time being. it started a horrible ratle in the top end that sounded like the piston came off the connecting rod. and as an early x-mas gift my folks went out and paid for me to get a new ride. I FEEL LIKE SUCH A TRAITOR because its a honda rebel. i will continue to visit here because its such a great place with many friends. drewps, if you need me to pay for the patch, i completely understand. let me know, it dosent make sense for me to have one if i dont ride a yamaha naymore, but i wont leave you screwed. im hoping that you all will look at the pic and …

Just came down from a shower, put in my head phones and resumed my Deezer favourites and first to come up was "the logical song" by Supertramp then followed by "black betty" by Ram Jam, now listening to "riders on the storm" by the doors. 60's bliss. Next up is "spirit in the sky" by, any guesses? Mike.

Spent most of yesterday evening dismantling my carbs you wouldn't believe what a job it is just to remove and get them back on the bike. After the usual removal of the tank & seat I need to take the battery the ICU & reg off, take off all the fixing bolts from the airbox then this is the good bit cos I used to struggle for over an hour to get the carbs in out until I realised I can get an extra inch space if I remove 2 bolts from the rear mudguard. So why am I telling you all this boring stuff! because as I reassembled it, I pushed one of the air box bolts in and hear the nut drop inside so l opened it up as it three screws I didn't need to touch to remove the fix…

Forgive me if this post isn't news but its been a while since I tinkered with bikes so I'm posting anything I find useful. Had to hacksaw off four non standard bolts from the rear frame. They were supplied by whatever company sold the back rest they were holding on. I needed to replace them but had no idea of the size or thread pitch, the standard Yamaha bolts would of course be too short - Then I discovered this handy little gauge. I think its self explanatory.

Hi, I got a woodruff key today, so I think the alternator is all sorted. I tried wiring up one of the CDI's I have but I can't get a spark, is it possible to wire it up without going through the ignition/ kill switch or does it need bypassing some way? So basically I've got four wires from the CDI, two that go to the alternator and an orange one that goes to the ignition coil. What should I do with the remaining wire that would normally go to the main switch on the handlebars, should i be able to get a spark without this last wire? Of course the CDI might be knackered, can these be tested in any way? As I have a couple of them and I don't know if its this that;s not worki…

Hey, I only have one key for my bike and my key safety is not great, always panicking about loosing it. I guess too be more safe would be the answer, but a 2nd key would be better. Since its not just a door key I assume I cant just go key cutting shop lol So where do I go to get one, and do I take bike documents to prove the bike is mine? Thanks in advance

Hi All, just a quick request, do any of you know where I can get spares from for my XJ750 UK spec, I really need a new (replacement) loom/wiring harness as the one I have on the bike has been attacked by a gorilla with a crimp tool and no brain, bought one from EBAY and it turned out to be a USA spec one which is ok but half the terminals are different as they have lighting and ignition differences to the UK. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Martin.
