Hi Everyone, I have bought a 1981 XT250 for $360 off ebay that is a non starter. I have no knowledge of the history of the bike but it doesn't look like it has started for a long time and it has been maintained using bodge methods. I have a clymer manual and enthusiasm. Problems: Kick starter has no decompression cable. Cam chain tensioner is missing. The timing was completely off. The electrics have been messed with. Indicators / brake light have been removed, only remaing light is the headlight. In general look butchered. No battery. Sticking clutch - my intuition says this might fix itself once the engine warms up and has been running for a little while. The most…

Hi all I just bought a 2008 Tenere which I love. I was thinking about putting a K&N air filter on it. Will this make any noticeable improvements to to the power? Is there anything else that I can do to get a few more ponies out of the bike? Many thanks Si

Hi guys Wonder if anyone could help me. I have an XV750 which was given to me by my father who has recently passed away. It was first registered in 93 on an X plate but I'm sure it was imported from the US. The speedo is redlined at 55mph. I need to sell it on as I need some space. Could any one give me an idea of how to go about finding a rough value for it? Thanks Mike

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/22251 This is on another forum so I thought I'd put it here. Its the EU law against aftermarket parts for bikes, it doesnt end there though, there is a long list of stupid additions to the law. Some are truely ridiculous. Please sign, the government is full of bell-ends.

So I have an '05 Vstar 650 classic. I have a small gas leak from the front carb drain screw. At least thats where it seems to be leaking. It drips maybe 2 drops a day if I ride it. What would be the best thing to do? Should I clean the carb or could the problem be something else?

First post, first motorbike. Having ridden peds for about 8 years, I decided to up my game in preparation for doing my full test in a year or two. I bought a good condition yamaha rsx100 which a friend of mine who knows more about mechanics than me checked over. It seems to be in great condition, both mechanically and body wise. However, the one issue it did have was the kickstart lever. The ring of the lever has worn down and thus needs replacing. Being a complete noob. I bought a kickstart lever for an rxs100, believing the parts to be interchangeable. I appear to be wrong. The lever arrived, different shape, and the connector ring is too large to fit the…

Hi My XVS125 looks the same as it did five mins ago... not right impressed. Think it needs a change, I may remove the sheild where the air filter is, and install a fat cone, or a pancake mesh one. Or... I may leave it there and remove the airbox and put in an offset cone filter, where the box was, directly on the carb. for the smart folk yes I could just leave it... but im not. So, the latter viable option would be a pain in the ass to clean or remove.... however coupled with bigger jets I could be getting a nice top end improvement... the previous, may look out of its style... and it still has the rather diversive rubber intake connected to …

My dragstar 125, is making a lot of sounds when hot. Im running 10w-40 motul 300v double ester oil, its the correct amount. It pulls fine and runs great, apart from a few noises. First, is the bottom end somewhere, like two logs knocking together, constant in line with rpm, its nearly at 13000 miles, dunno weather its in KM or miles. Obviously that can be heard better at idle. The cam and chains, are ticking like 24 sewing machines all in one. Im scared to death the bottom end bearings/rod bearings are going, or I have piston slap. Around a rounabout I heard something clunk around and then stop, this didnt start the noises, and bike was fine after, ho…

Hi all, new to the forums here so I thought I'd introduce myself. I recently bought an XS400 DOHC project on eBay for £100. Complete, but hadn't run for six years so I reckoned it was worth a shot. Having got the beast home, and had a poke around, it wasn't that bad really. It's all there, but the tax disc says 2001 which gives a clue as to when it was last used. The fusebox had some issues: But that was fixed with an MG Midget one from eBay: (I have since fitted the correct fuses) There were barnacles under the filler cap: And as expected, once I got the carbs off I found this inside: Still, nothing that could…

Hello everybody hope you're all good So my cooler pipe is leaking and I have seen some posts saying to cut off the pipes and replace them with hoses and jubilee clips and am hoping to go to my brothers place at the weekend and give it a go (he got the mechanical hands and I only got the good looks you see ) But does anyone know where I can get the hoses, oil filter etc anywhere in central London? Also is chopping the pipes the only way to do it or does anyone have an alternative please? I'd really appreciate any pointers in the right direction Cheers Paul

This is one for the year round folk, i have said before about the suzuki i used to own. Well it dumped its rider on the road over the weekend nobody and nothing else envolved, totally alone on the road, cause? A front brake pad. Yep, thats it. Corrosion had got behind the pad material and then, heat expansion maybe? something caused it to crack. Therafter a chunk came away and locked the front solid. Thankfully at about 15mph. The offending bits came out while stripping the front. This i'm told produced a near vertical, anal clamping stoppie. Dumping my mate (thankfully in full kit) over the bars on the ground doing his ankle, then drops back to earth and poli…
