Well.... I think Im going to paint my DT-r 50 SM in the near future..... is it just the same technique as painting a car bodykit? ie sand....sand and sand again ( obviously gradual between coats up to a 2000 grit..... filler plastic primer, sand sand sand, colour coat.....sand, laquer? I realise its a vague and poor description but is that how you paint the plastics? Also do you need a booth or can you get away with a wind free warm garage? ( space heater ) After I have done all the fairings I think I might strip her down completely and spray the frame as well - she`s looking a little scabby by the foot pegs! I have only had this bike a few weeks and the buz…

Hi all, Newbie here although owned my 93 YZF750R for about 11 years. I've just noticed that the paintwork has started to bubble on the side of the tank - 3 or 4 of the blighter's. I can only assume that this will get worse so the sooner I deal with it the better. The Tank is currently plain grey and black (looks to be very slightly metallic black). Any advice, thoughts recommendations, experiences on getting the tank re-sprayed - I want it as original as possible. The rest of the bike is in very good condition. Are there Yamaha approved paintshops with original paint codes etc? Any help appreciated Dunc

Hi folks, I'm thinking about getting hard panniers for my commuting fazer. Trouble is, she's a 99 model and I'm having real problems finding a wingrack that suits. I already have a givi top box mounted on the usual plate along with monorack arms but I'm thinking I will need to remove those to use the wingrack for any panniers. Any ideas?? I've been using soft panniers and they're alright but a pain in the backside when it comes to security. Cheers .......

Hi guys, I've recently bought an XVS 950a Midnight Star (really loving it by the way!) I'm struggling to find some decent cheapish panniers and wondered if anyone had any recommendations? I don't need them massive really just looking to pop my leathers in there on days out, would prefer lockable ones due to this. Thanks for reading. Andy

Just bought new 1300 Dragstar and had Yamaha panniers fitted. Told they were not water proof, then found out they LEEK big time. Slight down pour of rain as the bike was standing outside, went to cover her after the rain stopped and there was about 1/2" of water in the bottom of the panniers. What use are they? cost nearly £1,000 and they are useless. Seams they leek through the lock, which means it will rust eventually. Living in Devon (UK) it does rain a lot. Anyone else had this problem? Stevie

Hi All! Just joined as I have purchased a 2007 R1 with 1500km's on the clock...have not taken possession or signed for anything yet!!! The bike was bought from a parallel importer/dealer in Johannesburg, I have been warned that it could possibly be an engine restricted model...especially if it comes from California. The bike definitely comes from the States...but where exactly in the States who knows? I have been guaranteed from the dealer (large and reputable) that it is not a restricted model and not from California...but an angel on my shoulder is saying "are you sure?" Can anyone help me with what I should look for? I have heard stories about black motors…

Hi all, So I've been trying to answer posts on this forum and not just run here for help, but it would seem that I lack the knowledge required to post, or indeed fix. Apologies... Anyway. I changed my rear sprocket and chain today on my TTR, which was too much of a job in itself. After finishing off, putting everything back together, and feeling far too worn out than I should've been, I went for the customary test run. And I noticed this whine. I don't mean a small one, like you'd get from a fuel pump, I mean quite a considerable note, resonating quite nicely at about 50mph. I think it was roughly A#, although it might have been a B. I've googled the p…

Minor rant coming on. I live in London, in a tower block, we have some lockup garages around the base of the block so i thought it would be nice if i could get one to keep my bike in. There is also a lady with a bike who lives nearby and i thought she would like to share garage when i sorted it out. (Helpful like that me) So i gets on to the local council who proclaim no vacant garages anywhere in the known universe, now i had done a little recce and found 7 empty ones all boarded up so i informed the fella that i had been talking with. A week later he gets back to me and says he has found the keys to 2 garages and as the council has the keys they must be empty. (Happy Ha…

Hi Just as a general query, anyone on here had much hassle from parking tickets off private parking management companies? I've had one or two in the past but now they seem to appear all over the place and I've seen lots of people mistakenly paying them. Mine go straight in the bin of course as they aren't official PCN's! Any ridiculous / petty stories out there? Cheers Dom

All, I have a hobby of collecting and restoring old Hondas and a friend knowing that, passed a 78 DT100 to me. I told him I would get to the appropriate forum and see if I could help out some Yamaha collectors restores. I just got this account and not sure exactly how the site works. The bike is missing the gas tank, head, carb, exhaust, side cover. The rest is there. If there is something that you are looking for and I can help let me know. I decided to post here because I didn't want to see the bike end up in the trash. I'm a collector of Honda CT70s.
