What's happening? Some of the Grange Hill crowd here are going on about a new forum starting for all types of bikes. Is it true? And if it is....why weren't me and Da Mozzman told? 8)

Hi All, I'm going to do the unthinkable (for me) and with the help of a clued-up mate, change the oil and filter on my 1998 Thunder Cat. I've had a look on ebay, and was wondering which materials to use. Should i go for K+N oil filter, a 'regular' oil filter, or a Yamaha filter? Also, which oil do you guys recommended? Many thanks, Steve

hello any help would be great My son has a spanish bike with a ybr125 engine in it,as you all know this engine is air cooled. He ran the bike low on oil,i mean low less than a 1/4 of a litre, which has brought on a tapping from top end tappets are fine, cam and bearings are ok,i have put oil straight on to the inlet tappet, ran the bike and the noise has gone, but 10 minutes later,it returned,so it can only be that when he ran low on oil,he brought some crap up from the sump.. So my now for my question...is there anyway of clearing the blockage without sripping the head off,can i use a oil flush or would that do more damage,,

Hi just returned for a run out done about 250KM on my Dragstar 1100 & noticed a slight oil leak from the front of the engine. Not cleaned the engine & checked exactly where it si coming from but it look like its either the head gasket or from the plate behind the exhaust front pipe at the front of the engine . My question is is the head gasket prone to leaking ? the bikes only done 33,000 KM ? Answers to ease my fears. Is the head gasket a difficult job to replace on the front head please? anyone help ? hope so cya Bill

I have a 2014 , yamaha xj6f. It's done 1500 miles. I've had it from new and haven't dropped it. I've noticed that sometimes it seems to have a slight oil leak. It's not all the time. I can't see any residue any where. The position of the oil on the floor would suggest that it is coming from the fuel overflow pipes. I can never see it leaking and it's there when I return to the bike. Any ideas of why oil would be leaking from there? Has anyone else had similar problems?

Hi Guys, Just one question. I'm installing a new crankshaft oil seal (L and R) on my yamaha DT 400 1978, but I'm not quite sure which way of the seal faces inwards. You have a open side which shows the metal ring and the other side is the closed side. The rubber with the markings stamped on them with the castellations. Should the open or closed side facing inwards ? In other words, installing like this: Or like this: The last couple of days I've heard several opinions. So who knows the correct way of installing these suckers ?

Hi i was driving to sainsburys last nite to get some munch, pulled up outside and seen oil pouring out of my dt 125r later found out that it was coming from the top of the crankcase, from where the cases both meet. How did this happen and how can it be prevented? New seals or something Cheers guys

http://www.positivespin.us/MotorOil.htm Worth a read. Its posted everywhere, but this is just one link. Its scary to think that running a 10w-40 is running a 10 weight oil with a heat thickner added. Synthetics are the other way around. Base oil of 40, that is as thin on start up as the 10 weight based oil. Theres a reason to spend more lol I also learnt that when cold, (W rating) the oil is not thinner than the hot rating, its just less thin that it would be, if it was a single weight oil. All oils are too thick at start up apparently. I believe it, because when cold I put a gloopy substance in, and when hot its like water coming out. That always confu…
