  1. theres only two wires isnt there?, shorting them should do the trick, cant answer specific questions as dont have that bike or a manual. but symptoms are classic side stand switch problems
  2. Yes this is likely to be the problem, you need to locate the wires that plugged in to the side stand switch and make up another wire to short them together, or if its a proper bodge job and the ends have been cut strip off some insulation twist the wires together and put them into a terminal block.
  3. Hi Chucky and welcome is there a switch on the side stand?
  4. Thanks for letting us know, enjoy your new bike.

Bet he's exhausted after ermm...doing it
  8. The obvious answer is ebay, have you tried there?
  9. Wont know what needs replacing until its stripped down!
  10. You might be able to lower the suspension by changing the links (dogbones) Try getting the bike off the centre stand without being sat on it, seems a bit weird at first, but its easy when you get used to it, and its kinder on the stand' theres even videos on you tube. I used to do the same but now i always stand off the bike, just press your foot down on the stand, one hand on the bars and one hand on the grab rail, like i say seems strange at first but keep pressing down on stand and the bike will stay upright Put a saved search in Ebay for FZ6* seat, (Thats FZ6star) one may come along and find you, worked for me on a suzuki bandit
  11. Start with either finding someone to help you or start phoning round, a complete engine strip is not a job for a complete novice
  12. They dont hold a lot of oil, cant you see any on the dipstick? The drain plug should be obvious, underneath the engine, probably around the centre
  13. Tell them what youve told us, ask them over the phone if they need to see the bike, ask them if theres a charge for the estimate dont just ask one, try a few before you decide what to do, i reckon it will be expensive though, ive never been in this situation myself, always done my own work so have no experience of having bikes fixed for me
  14. Sounds like the gearbox oil then, time to do some phoning round i'd say, ask other bikers in your area where to get quotes.
  15. Thing is, the DT is a two stroke engine, and as such does not have "engine oil" (thats a four stroke thing), it does however have gearbox or transmission oil. so if you have run without gearbox oil that could do some serious damage to the gearbox and would involve major strip down. What do you mean youre not sure where the oil was leaking from?
  16. Open a photobucket account Upload your pics there with each pic you will see four fields Copy the IMG field Paste into the forum
  17. You seem to have no idea about engines and mechanics, not being critical when i say that, youre in the majority. The info youve given isnt precise enough, when you say its been leaking"engine oil".... where from? is it gearbox oil you mean or have you been running it with no two stroke oil? Either way though, from the info youve given, i would hazard a guess that it is going to be an engine out full strip down. but first maybe the head and barrel can be taken off to see if the damage is there. I think its not a job for a complete novice though...even one who can follow instructions, you need to rope someone in to help you, or pay dearly to have it fixed. Where are you by the way? If you do take it in, you will need a quote and only you can decide whether its worth fixing, have you got access to a van?
  18. Dont know the model but if its got alloy wheels it could be paint flaking and corrosion on the inside of the rim where the bead sits, next time you have a tyre change you should check these surfaces out, a bit of rubbing down and painting may be required, if you loay your bike up for winter, might be an idea to do it then.

Have you changed or cleaned the fuel filter?
  20. Oh yes, forgot about those, they would make a damn good commuter, especially for being a twin

Use any quality oil, DT100's are not fussy bikes, Keep the oil tank topped up, There is an oil level warning light, this is active when the bike is in gear so if it comes on then pay attention to it. You may find that it is on permanently when in neutral, this is a bulb check facility
