  1. And while were on the subject.... HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD AND DON'T MOVE FAST ANYMORE. George Phillips of Gold Coast, Australia was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said "no". Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available. George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again. "Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them." Then he hung up. Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response Unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!" George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!" (True Story) Don't mess with old people!!
  2. Sorry matty I cant, I just thought you would be able to see where the wires plug on to your lever, I'm only guessing though as i havnt got a manual, just have a good old look around especially underneath and you will hopefully see where to fit the wires
  3. There will be a switch somewhere on your brake lever, have you looked underneath it?
  4. Yep, it turned out a nice day after a wet start, Thanks Goff for the superb navigation of Lancs and dare I say Yorks , always wondered what Rivi was like, now I know..Top place, Love to do it again sometime Good to meet you OT, that was a surprise and a great little bike you got there, maybe next time you can come out for the day too. HalHark, bad luck mate, maybe next time
  5. I think that cleaning the breather pipe would be a good bet, make sure its not kinked.
  6. Ive arranged to meet goff at 11.30, junction 20 off the M62, Public house 'The Carvery'. Its Oldham, Lanc's
  7. I must be getting old!!!
  8. I dont think it is, your bike should tick over (idle) whether there is an air filter attached or not, they are really not all that fussy at closed throttle. If moving the mixture screw in or out has no affect on engine speed when idling, then perhaps the air jet is blocked, you say you have cleaned your carb but sometimes there can be some pretty hard stuff blocking these jets believe me i've seen it, i give you a picture of my carb and it shows the air jet, see if yours is similar and have a look with a magnifying glass and a small light such as you get on a cell phone, like i say its worth a look anyhow its late and i'm off now, see you later.
  9. I still think that youre 'barking up the wrong tree' with the air filter. The reason i say this is when the throttle is closed (which is where you say you have the problem) there is very little air going through the venturi, so how can a less restrictive filter be a problem here, Are you sure that the throttle stop screw hasnt been backed off too much Or maybe the bypass hole is blocked, its a small hole just behind the throttle slide on the engine side, this is where fuel/air is charged into the engine when the throttle is closed
  10. And do you tell them each time you take them out that it may be their last?

    Newbie

Hi Tom and welcome to the YOC
  12. No mate were not quite on the same page, I have said you should stick to the factory float height setting, you seem determined to keep altering it in an effort to overcome a problem caused by something else! Like I said twice before, I suspect the pilot jet is blocked, you also indicate you have issues with your pilot air mixture screw, so the best thing to do now is buy one of These they're only $17.50 and you will then have all manner of new bits with which you can re build your carb, go to siriusconinc website, you will find them under Keyster carb kits Yamaha. If you still have problems then...that is the time to start altering needle height and mixture screw settings in my opinion
  13. No its the opposite way round, the float set higher will make it richer, you should not mess about with float height settings, leave them as specified.. if it works well with open throttle without choke but not with marginally open throttle you should check the pilot jet is not blocked.
  14. All the preceding ideas are good Strip carb and clean, look for a blocked pilot jet. While its stripped, check and set the float height When its all cleaned out and blown through with compressed air if available, re fit it and set the idle mixture, pay attention to the affect the adjustment has, moving the screw should affect engine speed. set it to the recommended setting
  15. Its a great idea but i'll have to pass on it myself on account as its a too far away one and i'll be going on a local one to me, just like last year, great to be a part of these things when theres a big turn out. For any of our members in your locality, if youve never been on one give it a go, good fun and put a smile on some kids faces. ..highly recommended.
  16. Cant add much to all the above, you do need to check it doesnt need a rebore before buying new rings, it usually involves inverting the piston in the bore and taking measurements of the gap between piston skirt and bore are you familiar with this donny? as Drewpy says it may be in the workshop manual.
  17. Nice, looks great Drewpy. Shouldnt this be in your flat tracker thread or is it your rest bike?
  18. Welcome again Amanda, dont feel overlooked luv...we just moved your first post so now youre doubling up on greetings Hello from Amanda
  19. Nah, you dont want a sidercar, you need to be able to ride on the pavement to be a good courier Only joking of course, but you will need to be able to filter and such to make good progress, I've never done it myself but i'ts a tough job and I wouldnt recommend it myself, you love bikes...being a courier might just change that.
  20. I suppose the majority of answers would be no, same as when you take your kids out in the car... kids will love a ride on a bike, why spoil it for them, and..I imagine that right minded people would take extra care about where they ride and how they ride with kids on board.
  21. Thats a good idea, might find parts cheaper and more abundant on a German ebay site, of course there will be extra postage costs, but if youre stuck it might get you out of jail sometime

    bike insurance

I'm with Carole Nash and have been for quite a long time, I got a renewal for my 600 Bandit this week, around £300 Fully comp for me and my daughter, however I told them I am now a member of a certain motorcycle owners club and to quote again, bingo...£175 and an extra £25 for personal accident cover, I'm well happy with that .............so.dont forget to mention any motorcycle clubs you are in and if those clubs have negotiated a discount!
  23. Ok Steve, I mentioned I have a friend in the Jawa owners club...Well I've had a word with him. You bike 'Jawa 350 Style' is known as a model 640 It has electronic ignition which is usually quite reliable The charging issue maybe something as simple as a bad contact of the carbon brushes in the alternator, especially since its been stood a while This year is the 80th anniversary of the Jawa motor company The owners club will again be having a stand at Stafford show this year To join the owners club is £19 for year 1 and £14 for renewals (at current date) When you join you will be able to get a copy of manuals in English for your bike from the owners club Spare parts are / may be available from Mick Berril (Northampton)...
  24. just remind me, is you bike an air cooled model, as for the switch...a picture would be good, then we can see what you mean.
