Has the filter housing / battery box been removed then? if you still have it replacement filters are still available, if you do use a different filter such as a pod filter then you will likely need to increase the main jet size to stop the motor from running lean and overheating. ...Paul

Difficult to tell really, you tried jumping it from a truck and it still didnt start but i've tried doing that myself in the past and found it difficult if not impossible to get those big croc clips onto those small battery posts, so...whilst it should have started...was the connection solid?? Anyhow if you didnt maintaint the battery for at least 5 months it will be no good now methinks, as a test... charge it up you should get a reading of around 12.5 volts after the charge, then measure it again 24 hrs later...should still be pretty much the same if the battery is good.
  13. Yes they are, it might also be the carbs need balancing..(Syncing), this can also give snatchy performance at low throttle openings. ...Paul

Did you maintain the battery during the 5 month lay off?....If not then I would suggest the battery is no good now and will need a new one. ...Paul

Good news about it running now. With the issue of not running off choke is the air filter all connected up and standard? If so check the mixture screw is around 1 1/2 turn out from gently closed. Still got a problem now then perhaps its a blocked pilot jet, you should be able to see daylight through it. Soak it in carb cleaner and blow it through with compressed air but take care not to lose it doing this...its easily done. ...Paul
  16. might be a blocked pilot jet in the carb.

I use one of these To get a grip of the flywheel, while the centre nut is undone, works best with something between the chain and flywheel (strip of inner tube, rubber glove etc) Then use a pupose made flywheel puller (27mm thread) like this to remove the flywheel. The chain type wrench is also used when re torqueing the centre nut on re-assembly. Thats a good point from Cynic though...an easy check to make on the HT cap connection.

Yes dont accept the first offer, trawl the trade ads and try to find similar age same type bikes for sale, try parkers valuation guide, i think they have an online version. That offer did seem a bit low for such a young bike in good condition.

Mighjt be an idea to get a proper flywheel puller first, ( I think it has a 27mm thread) take the flywheel off and have a look at the components of the back plate to see if all looks well, not rusty and full of crud. As for parts.i use ebay, wemoto, motolink, ebay...and for genuine yamaha parts ...fowlers of Bristol
