  1. Glad you got back safe Jaqui, a trip you'll remember for many years then, well done to you and all the other participants...
  2. i've got a question too Who are your bank accounts with then? look pretty good to me
  3. Thats ok, we'll make allowances for a jock... You still on that ride Jaqui??
  4. Welcome to the forum Joe...
  5. Remove the plug, place the piston at BDC...(use a pencil through the plug hole to find this) and leave it for a while...days rather than hours, the fuel will evaporate via the transfer ports into the cylinder and out the plug hole. The oil if pre-mix will not evaporate so expect a bit more smoke on initial running.
  6. As long as the small oil pipe (pump outlet) is connecter directly the the inlet manifold like Dave's all will be well, it seems that different models have different methods but essentially all go to the inlet manifold somehow.
  7. Good luck with the weather Jaqui, Drewpy recommends carrier bags for the feet, I recommend a gel seat cover. Hope it goes well, i'm sure the B6 will take it in its stride...
  8. Thats a point, the engine does look like an earlier one, mine has radial finning on the head, however the frame is a monoshock and they werent around in 1974, do the engine and frame numbers match?
  9. measure the voltage on the battery posts, see if it increases with revs increase, that will indicate if the charging circuit is ok.
  10. Thats not a 1974 bike, its the same as mine...1979
  11. Yep, that other 'knob' is essential, it's the throttle stop screw and is used to achieve an idle when the engine is started, I think your best bet now would be to watch out for a decent carb on ebay or such like.
  12. Left side showing throttle stop and mixture screws.
  13. Leave a little of the tubing on the carb oil spigot and shove a 3mm machine screw screw in the cut end, use a little silicone gasket on the screw thread to bind and seal. here are some pics of the choke you wanted 20:1 will make lots of smoke, I would use a little less 25:1 or 30:1
  14. The usual problem is when someone has the brake backplate off and doesnt put it back on properly, if you remove the backplate you will see a revolving tab that is supposed to engage into a slot, poeple dont realise that the tab and slot have to be carefully aligned when replacing the backplate, this then bends the tab and the speedo doesnt work, you'll have to have a look to see if this is the case with yours. ...Paul
  15. There is only one connection from the oil pump to the carb, shown here The biggest pipe on the oil pump is the supply from the oil tank. (which is missing) its your call whether you pre mix or try to re instate the auto lube system.
  16. Are you saying the inner cable doesnt turn when the wheel is turned? is thebike a drum brake model with the speedo cable attached to the brake plate?

Nice one Drewpy, right up my street...wish i'd been with you.
  18. your bike will have a two stroke oil tank behind the right side panel, check its there and that theres oil in it. to check the oil pump is functioning remove the oil pump cover (front right side of engine ) remove the oil pipe from the carb ( front right side of carb) start the engine and twist the oil pump pulley round to its full extent and hold it there you should now see 'pulses' of oil coming out the end of the pipe that attaches to the carb. As for the 'wont run without choke', like dave says...strip and clean the carb, pay particular attention to the pilot jet. Paul
  19. The only true fix for the stripped thread is a proper thread insert, I doubt if the bodge method will be good enough. Thread insert Here Would also recommend that drilling be done on a pillar drill so that you get a dead straight perpendicular hole, this will save any tears if you dont get dead straight and cant get the head back on...

    Bike Modifying

ok ok so ive got a silver iridium screen...big deal...
  21. Hi, you need to find if the problem is the drive or the head! unscrew the drive cable from the head and place the bike on the centre stand, then weight the back of the seat so the front wheel raises off the ground. Now spin the wheel and note whether the inner drive cable is turning.... ...Paul
  22. why not fit a proper one? is the filter / battery box still with the bike? If not...is the carb inlet protected from 'Fling' from the rear wheel?
  23. When i saw the first pic i thought you'd mixed up the pics and that was an 'After' shot. What a magnificent job and a credit to you...
