Have you got a manual? if not I hazard a guess. First set the point gap when the points are at their widest setting, dont ask me what the gap is on your bike but if you dont know set it to 15 thou of an inch or the metric eqyivalent of that. Now look at your magneto rotor, can you see two lines scribed on it? well the left line will be your static timing line and the one on the right will be TDC (top dead centre) Now there will be a line somewhere on the crankcase too so if you cant see it remove the spark plug and place the end of a pencil into the plug hole and using the pencil as a guide turn the flywheel until TDC (the piston is at the top) and now look at the lines you will see the right hand line aligns with a line on the case. Now turn the rotor until the left line aligns and slacken the points base clamping screw (not the one to adjust the gap) place a cigarette paper between the points so thet is gripped, then turn the points assembly clockwise and pull very gently on the paper. as the pints heel hits the cam and the points begin to open the paper will be released ...hold it there and tighten the base plate back up. That is the crudest way to do it without any special tools and it is how I remember doing it many many years ago so I hope ididnt miss anything.

I would have just fitted new points and condenser and then the point gap and lastly the static timing, I'm sure that would have been just fine.

loseing power in higher gears
is the power valve working, some people disconnect the electric cable to the PV motor and fix the thing fully open. When this is done you would find the bike very bad to ride unless the revs are high and you get an 'all or nothing' type of performance Remove the PV pulley cover and see if it operates properly when the motor is revved.

slow dt??
This is what youre after no humps, bumps, grooves or anything...just nice and smooth
-
slow dt??
ok so when the slot / hole are aligned you should find that the top of the port is smooth , if it is you can eliminate this as being an issue.
-
slow dt??
you have mis-understood what I asked you. when the pv pulley slot is aligned with the hole , did you feel or look into the port, it should be smooth at the top,
-
slow dt??
Connor is your PV set up right, do you know if the part where the pulley bolts onto is 1: Diamond shaped? or 2: Rectangular with two curved edges? did you check it is fully open by feeling in the exhaust port when you had the exhaust off?

XV 125 REAR SWINGING ARM Problem
I would think it's the other way round...ie the bent swing arm caused the shock to bend.

XV 125 REAR SWINGING ARM Problem
I was just looking at this topic and i'm thinking that perhaps a spacer is missing from the wheel axle. There are often some kind of spacer at either end, omitting one of them would bend the swing arm and cause the problems you describe Kelum. Can Paul confirm / photo the spacers for you as I dont know of a parts diagram or what year your bike is either.

Which is better/faster?
so his is £2000 more, it's likely to be lighter, is he lighter too? on low output bikes the riders weight will make more of a difference than on bigger bikes. As has been said enjoy your own bike for what it is and make the most of being faster than cars in the rush hours. Dont get so hung up it's not a drag bike or even a pocket rocket the YBR is a good all round performer and will be more comfortable than the sportier 125R over a distance
