  1. You should get in the habit of switching the tap off when bike isnt in use, all taps were like this before manufacturers saw the light, it only takes a leaking float needle in your carb(s) with the the tap ON to potentially have petrol running into your engine, this petrol can seep down past the piston(s) into the crank case or sit on top of a well sealed piston, either way it could be very interesting when you press that starter button!!!
  2. Hi Steve, post some pics of the problems!

Sounds like your carbs are flooding, first check your petcock is working properly, if its a vacuum operated one and you pull off the gas feed pipe from the carb then it should not keep running out of the pipe unless you switch to prime position. its always best to know this is working because if your carb needle valve is leaking as well, serious damage can result from a combination of leaking petcock and leaking carb float needle. It looks as if one or more of your carbs are overflowing so you should check the float needle valves are clean and not worn, if they are damaged you will need to replace them.
  4. No problemo mr mop, make sure your gearbox isnt over full now though!
  5. What size socket fits...13mm? The torque setting for my 175 is 18lb/ft or 2.5 kgfm, this has 8mm threads so 13mm socket (sometimes 12mm), these settings will be fine for yours too assuming they are the same size studs.
  6. Try pulling in the clutch lever when you hit the start button.
  7. Hi and welcome to the forum, It sounds to be running lean, is the mixture screw set right? i will guess it should be 1 and a half turns out from lightly closed, i suspect it might be too far out! Failing this youre looking at a carb strip down and look for a blocked pilot jet

I'm sure we'll try Nick, but we need some info on the problem first.
  9. Yeah and its even 6 months older now, expect hes fixed it now though
  10. Why dont you answer a current thread??
  11. wonder if that ones gone from ebay yet
  12. Not surprising, its another one you dredged up from yonks ago!
  13. I regularly forget what i said . . . . . . . . . But the missus never forgets.
  14. Hi and welcome, The symptoms you describe are a perfect description of a slipping clutch, it will show up more in top gear than any other. make sure you have a little free play at the lever and also the actuating lever on the engine. Might be worth replacing the friction plates though if you dont know their condition!

    Carb Help

All you need is carb cleaner, an old toothbrush, cotton buds, compressed air is very handy, perhaps a good magnifying glass and of course common sense...go for it!
  16. Always nice to see one of the old DT's up and running again....
  17. Looks well mate, how did you do it then?, Aerosol or paint sprayer? did you do it or did you have it done?

    hello all

    Hi and welcome Sean
  19. What does your neutral light do whil all this is going on? is it ON when the bike wont start? or does it come on when you move the wheel?
  20. Sometimes if you look at a thermostat it will have stamped on it the temperature that it operates, heat a pan of water to higher than this temperature and drop it in, you should see it open up. Also if its goosed you may be able to run your bike without it fitted on a temporary basis while you get a new one.
  21. At the clutch lever where the cable is fixed you will see an adjuster with a locking ring. slacken the locking ring and turn the adjuster until there is no free play in the lever, then screw in (clockwise) the adjuster 1/2 turn. finally re tighten the locking ring. You should now have just a little free play in the lever.
  22. Not a chance, for one thing a 12v battery is not likely to fit in the space where your 6v battery is, second thing is rewinding the magneto will cost more than the bike's worth, then you would need a different regulator. your efforts would be better spent trying to source a 6v halogen bulb. Have a word with this guy Here about your bike and a halogen lamp
  23. Yes it does seem quite common with this bike, the best you can do is adjust the clutch properly and ensure that the correct oil is used in the engine
