  1. Try pulling in the clutch lever when you hit the start button.
  2. Hi and welcome to the forum, It sounds to be running lean, is the mixture screw set right? i will guess it should be 1 and a half turns out from lightly closed, i suspect it might be too far out! Failing this youre looking at a carb strip down and look for a blocked pilot jet

I'm sure we'll try Nick, but we need some info on the problem first.
  4. Muppet, That's another good one! lol
  5. Yeah and its even 6 months older now, expect hes fixed it now though
  6. Why dont you answer a current thread??

wonder if that ones gone from ebay yet
  8. Not surprising, its another one you dredged up from yonks ago!
  9. I regularly forget what i said . . . . . . . . . But the missus never forgets.
  10. Hi and welcome, The symptoms you describe are a perfect description of a slipping clutch, it will show up more in top gear than any other. make sure you have a little free play at the lever and also the actuating lever on the engine. Might be worth replacing the friction plates though if you dont know their condition!

All you need is carb cleaner, an old toothbrush, cotton buds, compressed air is very handy, perhaps a good magnifying glass and of course common sense...go for it!
  12. Always nice to see one of the old DT's up and running again....
  13. Looks well mate, how did you do it then?, Aerosol or paint sprayer? did you do it or did you have it done?

    Hi and welcome Sean
  15. What does your neutral light do whil all this is going on? is it ON when the bike wont start? or does it come on when you move the wheel?
  16. Sometimes if you look at a thermostat it will have stamped on it the temperature that it operates, heat a pan of water to higher than this temperature and drop it in, you should see it open up. Also if its goosed you may be able to run your bike without it fitted on a temporary basis while you get a new one.
  17. At the clutch lever where the cable is fixed you will see an adjuster with a locking ring. slacken the locking ring and turn the adjuster until there is no free play in the lever, then screw in (clockwise) the adjuster 1/2 turn. finally re tighten the locking ring. You should now have just a little free play in the lever.
  18. Not a chance, for one thing a 12v battery is not likely to fit in the space where your 6v battery is, second thing is rewinding the magneto will cost more than the bike's worth, then you would need a different regulator. your efforts would be better spent trying to source a 6v halogen bulb. Have a word with this guy Here about your bike and a halogen lamp
  19. Yes it does seem quite common with this bike, the best you can do is adjust the clutch properly and ensure that the correct oil is used in the engine
  20. have a read.

  23. Hmm they only call it a hose!!, not very descriptive that eh? Ok if you have an overflow problem then the fuel needle valve in one of those carbs that are connected to the "Hose" must be passing. Can you detach the "Hose" from the carbs? and then you will see which of the carbs has a problem.
  24. I'm stumped too at the moment, i dont think they are overflow pipes, you wouldnt expect petrol to be overflowing somewhere high up on the bike, that might be dangerous fire hazard, so they could be breathers which are there to keep the float bowls at atmospheric pressure. Have you got the rest of the info for that drawing, the bit that says what the parts actually are?
