  1. I just had a look on bikebandit site, looked at 1973 DT3, it shows a ball !! not sure its relevant to you, it was only ever a guess but still sounds like something is missing ???
  2. so no bearing anywhere then in the manual?
  3. I would expect a bearing but like I said its a guess, what does your manual show? the answer will be in there...
  4. The thing is...you dont know what the previous owner did..is there a ball i assume there is in your manual. you will have to drain the transmission oil and remove the clutch cover case i suppose, then pull off the pressure plate to gain access to the rod and bearing..
  5. sounds like something is missing...like a ball bearing perhaps!...Just a guess...

    Happy birthday from me too...
  7. Has the filter housing / battery box been removed then? if you still have it replacement filters are still available, if you do use a different filter such as a pod filter then you will likely need to increase the main jet size to stop the motor from running lean and overheating. ...Paul
  8. Damn...I was dying to see plan two!!

  12. Its just a breather to stop the transmission casing from building up pressure as the engine becomes hot. ...Paul

Nice one Ian, breaking in info will be in the owners manual, also study the other stuff like routine checks, oil, coolant, chain tension and lube...for example. ...paul
  14. This post is over a year old now and the original poster is unlikely to see this request. Tip..If you PM him he will get an email, am closing it ...Paul
  15. Difficult to tell really, you tried jumping it from a truck and it still didnt start but i've tried doing that myself in the past and found it difficult if not impossible to get those big croc clips onto those small battery posts, so...whilst it should have started...was the connection solid?? Anyhow if you didnt maintaint the battery for at least 5 months it will be no good now methinks, as a test... charge it up you should get a reading of around 12.5 volts after the charge, then measure it again 24 hrs later...should still be pretty much the same if the battery is good.
  16. Yes they are, it might also be the carbs need balancing..(Syncing), this can also give snatchy performance at low throttle openings. ...Paul
  17. Did you maintain the battery during the 5 month lay off?....If not then I would suggest the battery is no good now and will need a new one. ...Paul
  18. Good news about it running now. With the issue of not running off choke is the air filter all connected up and standard? If so check the mixture screw is around 1 1/2 turn out from gently closed. Still got a problem now then perhaps its a blocked pilot jet, you should be able to see daylight through it. Soak it in carb cleaner and blow it through with compressed air but take care not to lose it doing this...its easily done. ...Paul
  19. might be a blocked pilot jet in the carb.
