so it has not been used for many months. What battery maintenance was done during this time...is there any life left in the battery? what voltage is it showing?

could be a stiff link in your chain, see if the chain links have any kinks when between the sprockets ? Can be quite commonplace if you ignore your chain oiling in winter ! You'll hear it when the engine is under load...and it'll be hard to hear with the throttle closed

Anyway pictures or not,, if it's chrome plastic the best you can do is buy some chrome effect paint spray

yep if moving the bars around gives lights then no lights etc I'd suspect a broken wire in the loom, maybe in the head stem area?
