Sometimes on the older bikes there was the lock number engraved on the top near the keyslot, if so you will be able to get a key for it.

Hey Malcolm you dug deep for that one Topic now closed !

Try opening the fuel filler cap next time it does it, if it sucks air in and then starts easily you then have a problem with the tank vent.
-
Thats strange, i assume it started by the starter motor so the battery can't be so bad ?
-
Good idea

Sounds fair enough to me, DEP exhausts are not cheap and very low mileage too. Tip...Dep exhausts look good when new but not so good when rusty...if it still looks good then keep it that way with very regular cleaning especially at the header end.

At the risk of stating the obvious again..Good move

how to remove tighten screws on a sealed clock face
Airhead replied to little dave's topic in Yamaha Workshop
Good vid Dave, neat bit of grinding too, was that with a dremel of some sort? -
Good news and all that extra power has made the clutch slip
-
Cant you just remove the filter and see down to the slides, even using a mirror or one of those overgrown inspection mirrors (Dentist stylee)
-
Good for you Steve, take care while you get 'acquainted'. lets see some pics now

Aah! EFI....Extra feckin insurance Far too modern for me

Does the bike have a fuel tap? If you ever run out of fuel you will need to set the tap to PRI (stands for Prime) position for a minute or two before setting it back to ON or RUN or RES

Janie, i dont suppose you have visual of the slides with the airbox open? i know this would mean a tank removed but i'f all else fails and if it were me i would be watching the action of the slides if it were possible to see if any one of them is having a dicky fit (possible diaphragm issue) I know you checked them though so its a stab in the dark and would mean using a remote fuel supply. bloody awkward problems with four cylinder bikes eh?
-
Janie you have pretty much done everything i can think of here I would guess at the same but how would you know?

Living proof that the C-Nile virus is thriving in Scotland too Run that link by us again blackhat

Thats what i will be doing, remove and tuck away. I know someone from another forum, he has done this as well as gut the exhaust and jet up and his bike goes well from all accounts. What have you done to yours Vez or was it all done before you got it ?

Been out today, the exhaust is back on so i didnt see the PV working. It does the cleaning cycle ok when i switch the ig on. today it performed a lot better but theres still loads left. My exhaust is still number 1 suspect and the next thing to do is 'gut it' and get a new tail pipe, Cynic you are quite right, just want a revvy bike not a sluggish one like it is now, still it was good to be out today just got quoted £250 ish for a mph speedo which i am not prepared to pay, ordered a veypor digital one at around £150

Paintstripper is often quite a thick solution, even thicker than wallpaper paste, so unfortunately wont flow into the jet orifice and will just sit there doing nowt

Nail varnish remover is good, poke it with a nylon bristle pulled from a brush. use a magnifying glass unless your eyes are very young
-
assuming the air / box and filter are on the bike i would say blocked pilot jet, float height is 21mm though.

Two usual causes Warren 1 is the bike fitted with a regulator? check connections to this and that it has a clean earth fixing 2 is the battery fitted, topped up and in good condition? Thats about it ...Paul
