  1. The reed switch is NOT a rev limiter it is a speed limiter, therefore at speeds less than apprximately 65mph you should be able to rev freely above 7500 rpm. What is the number on the exhaust? it may have a reducer in the neck of the downpipe. I would'nt waste my money on a DEP unless yours is manky and letting the bikes looks down. as 2wheels said see my thread for pictures of the exhaust restrictor but bear in mind it may be restricted in a different way hence why I asked for the number.
  2. Happy birthday Jim, was it yesterday?
  3. Maybe the rings are a little worn and the bores are a little dry. Try a squirt of two stroke oil directly into each spark plug hole..it just might give better suction through the carb ...Paul

    Were back on

Well done Alex for fixing the forum,
  5. Leave the cover off and take a ride down to your local tyre fitting bay, hand them your socket and they will spin it off no problem with those pneumatic gadgets...a tactic I have used myself in the past. Then just nip it up for the ride back home. ...Paul

    module 2

Cmon Vez name an shame em I only ever left mine on once and that was because a satnav was hiding the idiot light, ...**idiot light**wonder why they called em that Never mind fried egg I once went to the wrong test centre for my test, waited hours before anyone asked me why I was there...I was camping in wales at the time so rode all the way back home to the local centre and the ironic thing is I passed the centre I was booked into near to where I was camping
  7. This could be the problem. How did you do this? All the connectors are factory fitted and not really replaceable. Did you cut them off? and replace withsomething else? how did you attach to the cut wites? OK I am making lots of guesses here because your post lacks detail Oh and I suppose a hello might be appropriate for a first time poster
  8. Backfires can be caused by loose exhaust fitting or rusty / perforated exhausts.
  9. Give upward pressure to the bottom of the bolt whilst simultaneously turning the bolt anti-clockwise.
  10. I asked if you could see light through the pilot jet not the main jet
  11. Sounds like a possible blocked pilot jet, can you see daylight through it?. Other issues to consider with and old stroker are crank seals but sort the carb first.
  12. Try a new spark plug If the bike is elec start then re-charge the battery Fill the fuel tank and drain the float bowl if thats possible if its a vacuum tap on the tank, switch to PRI position for a few minutes.
  13. Nice one Drewpy and congrats on the podium, its a bit ironic the S&S bike has 'wheels of ally' BWJ I wasnt invited, perhaps Drewps thought I would let him down...perhaps he wanted OT to himself
  14. Could be a dirty air filter, thereby richening the mixture.
  15. Ive never had my motor in bits but I expect the clutch will have to come off to get at that as well...ask Vez. If so it may mean special tools to hold it firm while the centre nut is undone...check your haynes book or if you can...enlist some help.
  16. Its in the haynes book page 61. It is fitted at the opposite end of the shaft to the gearchange lever. It will mean an oil drain and clutch cover removal to inspect which in turn will mean a new spring if its broken and new gaskets, I strongly advise a new shaft seal too if you do have to replace the spring.
  17. Have you got the key switch fitted and operational, have you bypassed the stand switch?? have you connected the neutral light? Do you want a working PV if so you will need the battery and fuse fitted. I have no experience of this but Vez has...he has an off road DTR
  18. Hello and welcome Todd
  19. Welcome toolmaster I have to ask why you did not transfer the loom also? As far as i'm aware DTR's of different ages will not have the same loom so as Vez says joining the dots may be difficult, for example the cdi may be mounted in a different place on the two bikes and have different pluc connectors. ...Paul
  20. Thats what comes of asking tech questions in 'The Bar' Topic closed as you raised it twice.
  21. Are you saying the lever does not return to centre when lifted up or pushed down? If so it could be a broken torsion spring, see item 3 %201A3RM-300EA/SHIFT%20SHAFT/"]shift shaft
