Aagh its been a long time since i did it, I think you turn the end of the spring clockwise and then depending on the set up, either you will see a suitable hollow in the casting perimeter to drop the bent end of the spring into (underneath and toward the rear)...or there will be a peg to hook the spring around
  11. not enough info on the kick starter to comment, did you locate the spring correctly? I would sort the kicker out and replace the cover, then you can remove the spark plug and turn over the engine while you gently try to re-fit the pump. Dont force anything! Tomorrow

  14. youre not removing the oil pump! just the tube where it connects onto the carb. I dont know whether the tube is special or whether any other tube will do, consideration has to be given to what affect high temperature (summer riding) with have on any replacement tube...will it soften and become loose on the spigots? I buy stuff made for the job. As a tip though if you have a hot air gun, just warm the end of the tube and dont pull it that never works but get behind it with a small screwdriver and work your way round forcing it off with the driver.
  15. 15 years there must be a good ten left, ah well it's only money. I would not ride that bike until I had bled the two stroke pump and seen for myself that it is functioning. to do that first bleed it, then with the engine idling, turn the pump pulley by hand until fully turned (max stroke) then pull off the oil connection from the carb and witness the oil is pumping in a pulsed manner in sync with the pump strokes. Only then would I venture out on it...up to you

  19. Heres mine, not changed much in all those years up to 2003, except the PV which made them faster. (2004 saw a bodywork makeover more up to date). Lots and lots of these were sold so second hand parts are available, never really looked for DTLC's so dont know how many are around
  20. This is a late one, its actually a scanned image from the Haynes manual, looks a lot like the DTR but the exhaust is on the opposite side. On the subject of exhausts...you dont see many of these early ones around now so try to get one with a good clean exhaust...a rarity on a trail bike due to the harsh environment it has to work in Dont shut your eyes to a DTR like Vez says, I got a nice 2003 one this time last year with virtually no mileage
  21. I dont know of any, they are a great looking bike, I would be looking for a later one the rear suspension would be better...like the DTR's. Either way and whatever you do I think you are on the right track to be looking at a two stroke old(ish) bike, looked after properly and guarded carefully never left in dodgy places etc. Your bike will surely appreciate in value. Take your time and a nice one will come along but you may have to travel to see it and have it shipped back home. ...Paul
  22. a couple of times round the block wont do any harm, if it gets too hot and it is too full it could possibly come out of the breather pipe and end up on the rear tyre thats TYRE not tire How come youre doing an oil change? you had the engine in bits only 5 minutes ago ?
