Rob I think Athena ones are good quality with a thin rubber coating just like yamaha ones, perhaps you can confirm this. If so you wouldnt 'need' to use sealant, however personally I think a thin 7mm wide wipe of silicone manifold sealant around the circumference of the bore (each side of the gasket) is good practice, I read an awful lot of DTR head gasket reports. If you are using a cheap pattern all metal gasket then the silicone is a must...whatever you do though dont cover the whole thing in it as you will struggle removing the head at a later date.

Ahh dont worry about it Emma, its not like you would know what to do with them
  5. Bit of a late reply Jonathan The fact it ran the other day suggests to me that things cannot be all that bad? I am wondering if all this trying to start her has washed the bores with fuel and dispersed any oil sealing around the rings thereby losing compression, the finger test is a bit rough and ready. Try squirting some oil in each bore through the spark plug hole, hopefully this will seal the rings for better compression and result in a bit more action.

will you expand on that plz, my bandit wont start and I am expecting to find gunge in the carb, ok it has been laid up for winter and the fuel may be a little stale but I would love to hear your findings, the bike was predominantly filled with morrisons fuel.

you dont need one do you? your bike runs without a battery. only when ypvs fitted would a battery be required.

No mate I dont use mine in the dark on unlit roads, dont expect much even if it is 12v. My DTR is 12v and a simillar setup, ie headlamp straight from magneto, kinda glows different shades of orange for different engine speeds

Slipping clutch...if you travel at say 30mph with say 4000rpm then in the same gear give it some gas uphill and expect 45mph at 6000rpm and 60 mph at 8000 rpm, if revs are higher then clutch is slipping.
