  1. Dont forget this will be only every 2nd full revolution of the crank...ie on the compression TDC, The next alignment after the inlet valve has closed when turning the crank anti-clockwise
  2. take off the inspection cover over the exhaust valve first and have a look to see if it looks right and the valve is moving ok when the engine is turned, you shouldnt have much gap between the tappet and the valve when the piston is a tdc on the compression stroke although i dont know what the gap should be myself! I get a feeling though that youre such a noob youre gonna struggle with all of this because lack of tools/experience/manual etc!
  3. maybe it dropped a valve, come on now it's time to get the tools out and check
  4. until you get the indicator bulb sorted make the right hand indicators the ones that work, its far easier to use a hand signal for left turns because you can keep with the throttle Can I suggest though that you buy two bulbs and then you wont be in a fix next time
  5. and on another note again, so did you align the plain plates with the smal bump in a way that they are equally spaced around the basket?
  6. Goos one ken glad you got it fixed. just get a hold of the screws of the thermostat with some vise grips or failing that drill the heads off them and get a grip of the screw shafts when the cover is off Merry Xmas
  7. nothing to do with it i would say...you may have done something wrong when re-fitting the plates. and on another note...did you fit the plain plates with the 'tab' right? (this is another story though)
  8. yeah I would be surprised if the head was warped, if that was the case I would expect there to be loads of bubbles in the expansion tank as the compressed gasses are pushed into the cooling system. top up the radiator and squeeze any rubber hoses to it with a pumping action, re top-up if the level drops.
  9. Yeah its not been a bad day for a change SYLO
  10. I like it as it is...on the other hand i would like it painted black with the FZ8 in gold
  11. I read something interesting today http://www.groups.tr-register.co.uk/wessex/ethanol-update.html so in 2013 I'm gonna be using this in the old DT http://www.millersoils.co.uk/automotive/tds-automotive.asp?prodsegmentID=911&sector=Classics
  12. Yes mate I made it from a piece of polished stainless cut from an old broken tea urn that i binned at work..not laser cut but thanks for the comment I will post up something interesting about ethanol petrol next

  15. Great stuff Richard, let us know how she runs and in particular the temperature. I have an inkling that mine needs a new crank seal (magneto side) an she's 'hanging' at idle briefly before settling and kangarooing on the over-run, It will be interesting to see if replacing it reduces the running temperature any
  16. I find that what was a standard jet size back in the 70's should be increased a little with todays crap petrol even if the rest of the bike remains at stock settings and equipment, why not try a 190 195 or 200, genuine jets are cheap as chips Maybe even retard the ignition by 0.2mm or so
  17. WOTS ALL THE SHOUTING!!!, IS YOUR CAPS LOCK STUCK ON check the stand switch with a multimeter, unplug it and see if its doing its job eh?
