  1. no knock sensors on most bikes, just bmws. its because jap bikes have quite high compression, a typical efi 4 is running only 15 degrees of advance. fair enough getting it checked out, but the dealer will just tell you to run higher octane fuel.
  2. when is it pinking? a lot of high performance jap 4s pink at low revs as you pull away (when the engine is under load, and in an inefficient part of the rev-range). Provided the bike isnt running raised compression, the only real cure is to raise the octane. btw, its not too likely to damage the engine as is transitional, if it was at high rpms for any length of time then itll trash the motor (eroded piston crown).
  3. btw, try thebikeinsurer.co.uk for insurance, its a very good comparisons site. also as you are young buy a bike mag and try the insurance brokers in the back, be prepared to do lots of phoning and you amy have to have a very large excess.
  4. ruddy hell, 17 with a new R6. If you can afford that youll be fine for the 1500-2500 for insurance. ride safe fella
  5. i did this when i fitted gold spots to my FZR, i used a half-round file to accomodate the piston. Looks factory spec.
  6. this weeks mcn came with a flyer for dicount screens.

another DT owner, were going to have to change the name to the 'DT forum (with the odd other yam chucked in)' welcome and good luck with the restoration.
  12. top offer seems good: http://www.thefastone.co.uk/products.asp?cat=454
  13. confirmed today the bike is a write-off with only 700miles but the other party has admitted full responsibility so
  14. Welcome to the forum, cool bike btw.
  15. even better: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Radi...sQ5fAccessories
  16. another method, aside from chroming, which depends on the amount of pitting, is to fill the pitting with araldite and then rub down with increasing finer grades of wet and dry paper, this will get the fork syrface back to a smootheness which will prevent the seal leaking. Best to replace the seals if you do this, as the lips of the seal will be damaged. other common bodges is to put a slither of rag under the dust seals to absorb any fluid that gets past the seal or fit 'bellows-style' gaiters (the off-road peeps will know the proper name) so the tester cannot see the leak, doesnt solve the problem, but will get the bike thru an MOT.
  17. go for the AWE role, nuclear power is coming back big time and skills pool in this country is painfully small. Youd be set for life.
  18. steve do you have a career planned? do you know what you are doing when you leave school? i only ask as i am a secondary school teacher and wondered if you had recieved careers advice.
  19. lets hope the Nigerian government introduce anti-spam scam laws. doesnt seem to be a day by when i dont get an email from 'proffessor alberts smiths' of the Bank of Nigeria telling me he wants to transfer $10million into my account! It must be there second biggest industry over there.
  20. because i do not have any other witnesses, i am not pushing too much at the moment. A mate of mine a few years ago had a non-fault accident and the insurers could not prove the other parties negligence. He got hit with the cost of a hire car for 2 weeks (the help-hire style company had this written in the small print), because it went 50/50. I dont wanna take a chance on being out of pocket.
  21. just been phoned by '4th dimension motorcycles' who are appointed repairers for Highways (the underwriter). Asking me where the bike was. i told them i didnt know and gave them the name of the recovery firm the police said would be taking it away. soes anyone know anything about this firm? i cant get a lot of info from google about them. edit: just found em:
  22. insurance company is 'uplifting' it at the mo.
  23. looks like its his fault, he tried to so the right turn as soon as the lights changed, straight into my path coming in the opposite direction, his first words were 'sorry mate that was my fault'. Dave Ayres was very well known in the city. A big personality in the chop/custom community. Terrible shame. and thats the thing i will be fine, he lost his life.
  24. ....is nor more! i went out all afternoon sunday: Abergavenny, Talgarth, Builth Wells, Llandindrod, Newtown. Coming back i was riding through Hereford. Pulled away from a set of lights, a car decided to do a right turn straight in front of me. i wind up in Hereford County Hospital all evening, badly bruised - specially the family jewels went over the back of the car-with a somersualt. the bike has been recovered to 'who knows' and the last i saw of it, it looked very poorly. i think it is a write off, only 700 miles too! oh well, onwards and upwards! wont be sleeping much tonight tho!
