Having bought a number of things (cars mainly) at long distance, i might suggest a few things that you are probably doing anyway: 1) ask for loads and loads of photos - a few photos on the website they are selling on will be the best photos. Ask for them to take some of specific features. 2) Spend 20-40 minutes talking to them on the phone, virtually walk through it with them and ask them to point out the good points and the bad points. After this conversation and some more detailed photos you can make a more informed decision about whether it is worth the trip. 3) It looks in quite a remote place, things generally command a higher price in the biggest urban areas - keep this in mind; you may see this as a brilliant deal, they may be desperate to sell and you may be the only interested party (the ball is more in your court, than in theirs, maybe) 4) See if they will meet you somewhere, if they want a sale they will likely offer to do so. It might also let you know the vehicle is reliable too.

lol, i sound nothing like alexei sayle (tho he was funny in the young ones). Interesting video, hasn't aged too well. On the bike issue, should have my tdm back on the road soon, about to go out doors and put a new tyre on the back.

i wonder what kind of sentence the Brit incident got? probably a slap on the wrist ("it wasn't his fault your Honour, he's got a difficult life"). Hopefully the old bill beat the shat out of him in custody.

interesting that the engine hasn't lasted all that long. Was there no after-market crank option? you need to post this on the r125 forum. Would be nice to see some punctuation - man that is hard on the eyes!
  9. no they won't fit, i think it is a different engine (the 'cat engine is the same as the fzr600)

to sync the carbs you need some balance gauges and a screw-driver. Google around for a guide, it is not hard. I do it myself, but have access to gauges. Give a few local dealers a call, the bike has vacuum tap points under the tank and a dealer might do it for 1/2 hours labour. The dealer you bought it from may do it gratis, but i wouldn't expect them too, as it is not classed as a warranty thing.

Do you know where the fumes might be coming from? The bike is EFI with pressurised lines to the fuel-rail, a leak there would be noticeable.

mmm, seems lower than the XJ6 that i had. Are the throttle bodies syncronised? This can really affect town mpg. Let the engine warm-up and listen to see if it hunts (the engine idle rpms fluctuate), if it is really bad you might see the rev counter dance about a bit. The yamaha idle speed is also a touch high, you may be able to tweak it down a little. On the M-way i could get 50-55mpg unless i thrashed it. If i went dead-steady 70mpg was possible. Maybe something like a tps-sensor is playing-up. on a different note - Nice to see lots of owners of this excellent bike, i really miss mine.
  14. Who fitted it? take it back, as it needs to be correct so that it works correctly as an alarm and if it is a immobiliser, not immobilise when you are riding (bloody dangerous scenario).
  15. i always stick them on with copious amounts of Tensol 12.

thanks Pat,,,, don't know how to take that!
  17. what you need is a hex socket (i have 1/2 drive halfrauds- its good to have a proper set with the increasing use of socket-head bolts). You can make one, by cutting an 8mm allen key down (a strong one), so you have a straight shaft and then putting this into an 8mm socket and using your ratchet or whatever. The reason it is tight is because Yamaha use thread lock.

I'm still slightly sore, but okay - got tons of ambulance chasers phoning me. Also haven't had the bike collected yet. They reckon mid-next week. It's my fault really - not the accident, my lack of convenience for collection due to my domestic situation. Been a tough week, went back to work and had an internal 'ofsted' inspection, trying to teach maths (i'm a technology teacher) for the first time, to a difficult class with a sore body is no fun! btw i hope you've recovered from your marathon DT journey! (top man) the car was a late 90s megane scenic - load of banger junk! funny thing was the day before i got hit off, i nearly booke the ferry for a half-term trip to spain, glad i didn't bother!
  23. Anyway i wouldn;t fill the form in as it is only for a measly £300-odd quid. I just got an email from a Nigerian Oil-Baron to tell me i'm getting $14,000,000!!!!
