new to the classics... how can I improve it?
I believe it. The drill bits I have, plenty for metal work... but drills are all wearing out at the same time! Still, might be worth while for the XS500, hadn't thought of just using a drill, now I shall deffinately keep that in mind.

I bet that looks wicked too. Looks aside, the actual improvement it wonderful. If I still have my Milling machine in a month or so I may drill the disc on the XS500 before I give it to a friend.

Indeed, progressive springs in the front forks, and progressive shocks in the back do wonders for everything. Brakes of course can be done up, even simple things, like drilling a solid rotor for that better grip in the rain - weight be damned.

XS500C Carb replacements?
Only one side cover, But It will be when the weather warms back up. I like the red, and I think it's safer. I also have the headlight mostly sorted, the pipes ready to go back on, the lower handlebars ready, and so on... getting the screws outta the controls is going to be a pain, but happily I ordered new screws so that will be more pleasent in the future.

XS500C Carb replacements?
Thanks, especially for the fork springs. I realised late last night that the JRC carbs may actually fit and emailed the manufacturer, they're going to make me the mounts so i can fit them in place of the stock carbs. Saves me a few bucks, so happy with that. But delighted to see progressive springs, I wasn't thrilled with the idea of simply using a spacer.

XS500C Carb replacements?
Hi all, Does anyone know if there is a cheep modern (ie new) replacement to the carbs on my XS500? For example I was able to get a pair of brand new JRC carbs for my Triton for $150. I was hoping that someone would know of such a carb that would be interchangeable with the XS? Also while I have you here.... progressive fork springs that fit the XS500? My bike at the moment, tho it is slowly turning Red.

My Yam
She's a 1976 XS500C. Runs pretty well, but she's pretty faded. I'm getting her set up for a 4200 mile ride in July. Planning on B roads the whole way, I think she'll do it. I hope she'll do it. She has 28,000 miles on the clock, so I have no reason to think she won't be up to it, long as I treat her nice and wisper sweet things in her ear. Anyways, currently have a list of parts off MikesXS page. Also might swop out the harness, not 100s on that yet. Have begun to paint the bike a nice shade of red for visibility and a love for Red roadsters. Have Hagon shocks off another bike for her, and some mufflers I've swiped off my Triton. I'm also in the process of borrowing a headlight off the Norton Atlas for the use of the Halogen lens and bigger bucket. It'll look all right and allow me to fit a Dart fly screen. I'll post more as she turns into more of my kind of motocycle.
