Evening Ed " hes right am afraid, sounds like you have worn dogs on second gear, or it may need shimmed,[ take out latteral movement] . as gears engage the dogs are undercut,[ slight bevel] this pulls them tighter together, as power is applied.. if the gear has side movement [ even 5mm is too mutch] it jumps out, and all them jumps [ bangs as you describe] rounds off the dogs,

Hi marsh" you say stripped to the bone [ carb], did you take out the pilot jet, coz thats what takes over from the choke jet, for idle and first quarter throttle, untill the air-speed builds up [ venturi] then lifts fuel via the main jet,,, -
Aye andre" the big advantage of buying the kit is" the sprockets will be the same pitch as chain,, sellers will sell single fronts, then you find they"re a diffferent pitch, i v even seen sprockets listed on ebay for the model , and sending wrong spline size,, your going down 1 tooth " that = wheelies and poor fuel consumption,,

Nayruff is spot on,,, the stays [brackets] are different sizes, even the lower stay, the 19" wont line up with the hole in fender, i found this out the expencive way, ,,,i have a 19" chrome lower and upper R/H, Spare , i was hoping they will keep up with the price of gold,,,

Sounds like pilot jet blocked, if needs choke to start even wen hot, also air screw is 1/2 turn out,you say,, bit ritch, or pilot jet is too small ,
