Cool. See you're narrowing it down slowly! I think that beer will be well deserved!

Balance pipes - you can try them between the two downpipes into a middle pipe. Triumph triples use them - you never know - it MIGHT make a difference. If its running better with the pipes off try doing a plug chop to see how the motor is running? Have you tried pulling the choke when you are riding it to see what happens? If it picks up its running too lean so its back to messing with main jets. Start from a base setting and see what happens - needle in the middle back to standard main jets and then its a matter of experimenting for the best setting! Jolly good luck!!

You can still mark the forum as read. I you click general (or whatever forum you want to go in) on the dark blue bar to the right is the option to mark as read It is a new layout, but it is very easy to use once (like everything else) you get used to it and it is very user friendly.

Ok so it could be the Harley tap as i said in my previous post When you cleaned the carbs did you strip them completley ad rebuild them? I had a similar problem with my VFR we stripped them, cleaned them, then rebuilt them - worked a treat! They were absolutely full of gunk which you couldnt see till we stripped them. Im still of the inkling that its a fuel problem you have. If you are riding it and you pull the choke out does it make any difference? Does it run better? If so pulling the choke is making the mixture richer therefore indicating fuel starvation - so solution would be even bigger jets

Ahhhhh... think i might have sussed it. The Harley tap only feeds one carb! It MIGHT be that? What is it actually doing at 4K? Spluttering? Losing power? If you can tell me what its actually doing then i might be able to come up woth somethiing else

Hmmmmmm... scratching me head also! Although it still sounds like fuel starvation. Have you lifted the needle? Also, as you have a custom tank do you have a big tap on it?

Any baffles or straight through pipes? Has the trike got a custom tank on it? Sounds very much like fuel starvation?? Have you checked the mixture screw? Just trying to help you narrow it down!

My 650 had a screen that came above my eye level - never had a problem at all. I wouldnt worry too much to be honest, there's nowt in the VCA regs and nowt in the SVA regs either - if it was illegal, it would be in there. As a matter of interest you dont need a front mudguard for an MOT either, but a lot of folk think you do!

If its running like shit over 4000rpm its probably not getting enough fuel. If you put individual K & N filters on its getting more air - a rule of thumb guide for main jets is +25% as a rough guideline What are the standard jet sizes for your bike? Have you done a plug chop? The colour of the plugs will indicate whats happening to your bike - i have an inkling its running too lean...... What exhaust you got on there?
  16. Yep i had them on my 650 Never had a problem with the chrome flaking off though. They looked great!

Errmmm....i dont think it is. Screens are domed to allow rain to run off and direct the air flow around the rider and a tall screen is not illegal. Bikes such as the Harley Electraglide have MASSIVE screens. And the BMW C1 has a screen that goes right over the rider. There is NOTHING inthe VCA regs that state how high a screen can be so im afraid your info isn't right.
  18. Great layout! I am used to this cos one of the doggy forums im on uses exacly the same layout -its brilliant and very very easy to use
  19. I dont think it has anythign to do with the size of their todger..... i think they are just kidding themselves....
  20. Get yourself a test ride on one too. You'll be very surprised at how different it is to your 650. They also do a red one too if you are after a different colour.
  21. Welcome to the forum. Yes i have one of these babies. I traded up from a 650 in February this year, and i have no regrets whatsoever. The bike is gorgeous! Its light, responsive and more comfortable than anything i've ever ridden before. The seat felt quite hard on the ass when i first got on it, but after a mile or so it was REALLY comfy. I cant get over just how light the front end feels - the 650 felt like a ton weight at times, but i feel like i have so much more control over this one. Looks wise - well IMO its a thing of beauty - Yamaha have completely revamped it, and it makes the other bikes in the Star range look dated. The arse end is much more sleek an more pleasing on the eye - my 650 had this lump of a light with indicators attached - something i never really liked, but this one is completely different. The front end is a litttle slimmer, but the pullback on the bars is more than the 650 thus giving for a less "stretched" ride, which is a bonus for me cos im only little. The belt drive replaces the old shaft drive, making the bike lighter, and the frame is a matte black - complimenting the chrome beautifully. I haven't had ANY problems whatsoever with it, i can load it up with my tent, sleeping bag, panniers, airbed AND a pillion and it will still go as smooth as it does unloaded. I love this bike to death.
