Litespd600

1997 YZF 600r Does the engine need to be completely disassembled to access the gearbox internals? I don't have the shop manual for this bike yet and was trying figure out how involved it's going to be to fix my 2nd gear problem. I'm pretty sure it's the dogs on the shift fork causing the gear not to engage.

Just aquired a thrashed 1997 YZF 600 (R?) with no fairings, only the windscreen so I'm not quite sure of the model. Here's the problem, second gear is gone, or unuseable anyway. All other gears work fine but when it is shifted into 2nd it won't engage, it sounds like it wants to but it won't, just growls. It only growls when I give it throttle, If I shift into 2nd and just coast it's fine (no noise). I'm planning on repairing the gearbox, I've heard this is a common problem with 2nd gear - a roll pin sheared off or something. This happen to anyone else? How much to fix? Also, the front end from the tripple clamp to the tire has been swapped with one from an R6 and the speedo cable is missing. I can't see anywhere that the cacle would hookup to the front wheel assembly. Any Help?
