  1. Thanks. Sounds like you could be right. Bike is air cooled. Have noticed the sump sight glass looks cloudy and could be contaminated with water; also found spark plugs 3 and 4 are slightly oily. Could this be another symptom? Is this a big and expensive job to do yourself?
  2. Help please!!! Getting some milky oil finding it's way to the air box and leaving via the breather pipe. Thought it was previously down to oil level too high, but this was recently changed and level is correct. Engine does sound a little rough, especially when cold. Carbs appear ok. Could it be something to do with gasket or pistons? Also using bit too much fuel. Any advice welcome!
  3. I am a late starter to biking and go from one problem to another! Now having probs with warming up my XJ600. She starts fine with the choke on, but when the revs build up I ease the choke in partly, and then the revs gradually drop for some reason. If I pull the choke back out then she dies, but if I turn it off she chugs and then stalls. When fully warmed up (eg after couple of miles) she runs fine and ticks over at about 1500 rpm. Can anyone help???
  4. I am an ageing (40) new biker having recently purchased an XJ600 as my first biggish bike (1995 model in case of mishaps etc). After about a month I had problems with starting, and the battery suddenly going flat. I was told that the regulator rectifier and battery were duff and to replace both. I did this and the problem (for now) has gone away and there are no problems with starting. Have heard some nightmare stories about RR's wearing out one after another and wonder if anyone has any advice on prolonging life of said items. All comments gratefully accepted!!!
