  1. The last pipe looks like our crank case breather tube
  2. Correct-a-mungo!

I had something very similar from my RD YPVS, (they use the same counter). The first time it was a knackered battery and the second was the ignition switch. I took it off and cleaned up the contacts and it was like new again. Other than that have you checked for an inline fuse?
  4. I would do the following. Recheck your air screw it looks like it's more than 1 1/4 turns out. The white nipple looks like your oil feed in and the pipe looks like the oil supply. Your idle screw the one with the spring looks bent from this angle and you ought to take it out for insoection to make sure that the rubber O-ring is OK. This should be unscrewed about 2 turns and deternimes your idle. If it still does not idle then you need to take the bowl off at teh bottom and clean out your jets. IF you are not sure whether you are using any 2 stoke oil then stop and return to the basics. You must have air going in. You must have petrol going in. You must have 2 stroke oil going in. Once you have got all 3 then it's time to start looking for idle problems. As a quick check kick the bike over a few times and some oil should come out of the end of the pipe provided it's full. Be careful with this you could end up in trouble.

Skyline's got a good point I think. 2 stroke engines do smoke and the less you use them the more they smoke. Using a cheaper mineral based oil like valvoline will make the bike smoke a lot but the smell will not be the same as engine oil. Unless you think it's gutless then it's probably the 2 T oil. Is it really really bad or is it just that you notice it?
  6. I suppsoe that you're using a mikuni carb. I can only think that it might ne an overflow from the slide tube or one from the float bowl. Mind you I am not a DT owner

It is a good learning point to ride in the wet, it helps to get your head around driving when the roads have been wet overnight. Also it scares you witless as there are a lot of drivers out there who have no idea about increased braking distances or straight line braking. Doesent make my pants wet, just brown....

Sounds like a sticky choke The engine won't run on idle when hot. Classic choke problem.

I've been restoring a really crappy bike so I have loads of shite stuff to put back on it for over winter. It'll be used and I can se that the WD40 bill will be rising.

That's a real bind for you Peter. Is the rev counter the same as many other Yamahas? You could probably pick up another one for £5.

I could be tempted to ask an idiot 200LB friend to put his weight on the other footpeg.

Roll the bike along is first on hi revs gently then close the throttle fully then 'wap' it open. gives a jerky wheelie but should do the trick. Or do a racing start where you ave the throttle fairly wide open then instead of feathering the clutch after your rolling just dump it.
  13. Another one in the fold.

Don't use a compressor. Use a bike pump. It's only a few pushes. upto 11 PSI or there about. Try a lightly thicker oil. Go to Halfords and see their range.

M and P (MANDP.co.uk) do a wide range of complete graphics starting at about £30.
  20. Don't be frightened to ask lots of questions about what the seller has done to the bike. Ask them odd questions as well like how long does the chain last and how far can you go on a set of tyres. That way if they have ridden it hard and not looked after it you can tell how often they've had to replace them by looking at the mileage. Of course the engine has to sound good. Nowadays I would take someone along as well. After all a couple of pints can save you from a nasty bill. Let us know how the test goes.

Yep me too. I found out by accident as well. I got so fed up bleeding the front brake that I filled up the rear and put it in the shed. Next day, tube was full with fluid and no air either.
