What's more dangerous? Highway or City Streets?
Thanks for your thoughts. I ended up using a combination of highway and city streets yesterday to get around utilizing the safer short highway stints in combination with pretty decent city streets. Of course I'm lucky that some of the local highway sections are not battlefields. I travel the highway every day with four wheels and you tend to know where you'll be fighting for position... I'll simply avoid them on two wheels. There is a road nearby with two lanes on each side separated by grass that I've been told is very popular with motorcyclists. I'm going to have to check it out. I'm still interested if there are any statistics on non-highway incidents, just to compare them to the highway ones. Mark

What's more dangerous? Highway or City Streets?
I'm a bit frustrated. Even after reading many of the infomative documents on this site... http://www.ntsb.gov/Events/symp_motorcycle_safety/agenda.htm ...I feel I know more about the dangers of the highway, but not how that compares to city street riding. So what's the deal, where I live I can choose either the highway 4 lanes with a fair amout of 18 wheelers or I can go city streets. I opt for the city streets but know that intersections can be dangerous places. Also, with city street driving you have cars that can pull out right in front of you turning right OR left. So I ask myself, which is really more dangerous???? I can understand that an accident on the highway probably equates to more broken bones and what not, but I would think you'd run into higher probability of accidents around city streets. So I'm wondering which way is safer? What's your opinion? Are there any statistics out there? Mark V-Star 1100

Don't make the same mistake!
Yeah, I was hoping they would be lenient if they did pull me over. It just sucked not being fully legal. Hopefully I'll get my plates today! Sounds like you were pulled over by the right cop! For some reason I thought they might even impound the bike in Ohio, so I was a little nervous. Mark

Don't make the same mistake!
Hello, this is my first post here so hi! I just bought a V Star 1100 this weekend. My first bike. Congrats to me! Anyway, a tip to the wise. Don't buy a bike at the begining of a long holiday weekend. You have no plates and you will be tormented because you can't legally get out on the road! Believe me, it was a little rough on me mentally! Well, I drove from Cleveland to Cincinnati Ohio with a plate on Saturday. I had my dad covering my tail as we blew by about 6 cops. Then bit my lip on Sunday and just drove it a couple of miles but I had to take it out today since it was nice and we went to a family cookout. So there I was breaking the law. Naughty me. But I just could not help myself. I guess I have no self control. ANYWAY, maybe I should have used one of my dads old plates I don't know... but I didn't get busted so it's all good. So in my ecstasy, I was in a little agony! Thought I'd share that with you. Can't wait to be legal! Mark
