Fuel additives...
The point is that the engines are designed in Japan where they don't have Redex so its never been tested on them. If you wish to shove something up the carbs and engine, then find something that Yamaha have tested as to not causing any problem. Carb icing is caused by the venturi in the carb and in a standard configureation, should not happen.

Bike not starting
Could be a whole host of problems but if it was working before being stored it rather narrows it down to fuel. Probably water in the fuel or sticking floats or blocked fuel filter/line. Clean plugs and charge the battery and drain all of the fuel out. Put in fresh fuel and ensure that its in the carbs, try to start it. Oh and welcome to the forum!

Do they have Redex in Japan?

Steering Damper
The damper is there to stop shaking at high speed. Some bikes tend to have steering occilations that get worse the faster they go. Dampers have been fitted to bikes for a very long time.

TZR will not start
It should spark before top dead centre. Check and see if there is continuety between the outside (ground) of the spark plug when fitted and the engine. The needle shoud be hard over otherwise that might be the problem. Also check the engine to the battery neg side and again it should be hard over. No resistance between any of them.

Problem w/ my XS1100
Hello and welcome. This appears to be a loose battery lead or earth lead problem. Check all leads. Also check the kill switch operation.

Fazzer fault
What is the voltage across the battery terminals when the engine is running above idle?

TZR will not start
It might not be so straight forward to look at. You need to check for any play between the the rotor and the shaft. Any play change the key.

Yes but when we get bored we go to Switzerland, (over the water) and do some switchback hills. No pillions allowed.

TZR will not start
I cannot help with the ignition electrics, as I do not have a manual for them but one thing you can easily check with a multimeter is continuity. You need to check from the centre electrode of the spark plug, when connected to the lead, to the outer of the lead. If there is any electrical connection at all, change the plug lead as your losing sparking voltage. This can also be intermittant so wiggle the lead to see if there is any difference.

TZR will not start
Could have been a partial siezure. These free off when cold so will turn over again. The sparking is normal and is just taking the closests high spots off. You might have a weak spark that is not firing under compression so test the rest of the circuit.

If you mean teens in degrees F then thats the battery voltage down. I think thats your problem.
