Yamaha do make very pretty machines.

When the bike has been left ie that it is cold, the oil would have drained back to the lowest point. In most cases that would be a sump. Therefore a sightglass will give one reading. If the bike is run for a few minutes and then stopped, you will get another different level. The point is to get consistancy. If it is not mentioned in the handbook, then choose to check the level when cold. Do not overfill.

When you wrote to say that your petcock was leaking, why did you not write and tell us that fuel was leaking out of the carbs. That is a different story to a petcock leak. Fuel is leaking out of the carbs (how many?) because the float is not sealing off the inlet That is a seperate problem to a leaking petcock

There is a market that most people forgetabout, and that is ebay, international. I am not here to recommend that product but it might pay you to think about it. Very good luck.

Handlebar buzz should not happen on modern bikes but if it does then the manufactureer should be notified. That is a fault, and is unacceptable. However, sometimes in part of the rev range the bars might resonate in sympathy with the engine and this should be dampened down by changing the engine mounts.

Looks great and I take note about the Yamaha top box.

How will you get it through the MOT?
  8. yoda replied to markandjen's post in a topic in The Bar
Mark, get Jen to smack your botty. You wrote nothing about soaking the bike with water before it started to conk out. Waterproof the electrics with WD40 or similar next time, before you hose it.

Assuming that the baffles are still fitted, then no but it might be a little lean on the mixture. Most exhausts are for looking not performance.

No not really. I guess you can ride them!! We have bikes though!!

You probably have water in your fuel system so any anti icing agent would work but be careful that it doesn't rot rubber seals! Better off draining the tank and carbs, cleaning them and refilling with fresh fuel. I cannot advise you to put anything in your fuel tank other than the correct grade of fuel.

I used to cover the engine of one of my cars with a horse blanket. That worked. If you can keep the frost off, all good. I would still be worried about this particular problem though. The carbs will ice up as you drive but there should not be any moisture in the airbox anyway. Sometimes they will do it in fog.

If your throttle actions starts to go flat then you know it's started to ice up.

This could be carburette icing. It could also be water in the fuel freezing in the carb. If it only happens when the air temperature is below freezing or close to freezing then it must be carb related.

Sounds like the carbs need an overhaul. The choke mechanism is sticking and overfueling.

Assuming that you have some coolant in it (check the level cold) then it could be that the temperature sensor is not working properly. I dont know if the fan signal is from the guage needle or has its own sensor but you need to check. Another thing to check is that the radiator fins are clear and not blocked to the airflow.

It's overfuelling with choke on. Dont open the choke fully.

The engine has a sealed breathing system and will deposit the odd bit of oil in the intake area. There should not be much but if there is, then there is a problem with blocked breathers or within the engine itself. If it wasn't a Dragstar I would have said that someone had wheelid it too much. Clean the intake and fit new filters and change the oil. Check it in 500 miles.

You need to do some more riding. You do not need a tacho to change gear.

Stop spreading rumours. After passing the UK test, you are limited to 33 hp until the age of 21 when power is unlimited.
