I'm also working on an XS750, a '77. So far so good, the engine sounds nice a tight and no electrical problems. It only has 8250 miles on it and even though it had been sitting outside in the dessert for at least a year, it didn't take much to get it running. One modification I did was to shorten the ugly muffle by 12 inches and redesign the baffle. Now it sounds like a hopped up little British car. I'm also going to use pod filters since the stock air box is missing.

Zoom has a point. I bought an '04 HD Sportster rather than a V-star 650 because the V-star had PLASTIC rocker covers. I want my bike to be made of METAL! On the other hand, I like motorcycles in general. I joined this forum because I aquired a '77 XS750D and when it comes time to make it road worthy again, I want to share the experiance.

The brake drum and/or pivots/cam could be full of rust. You might need to take the wheel off. Or you could try moving the brake pivot arm back and forth (after removing cable) while tapping on the brake housing with a rubber mallet.

It is a triple. Looks like the first model year '77 (built 8/76). I understand that these things had electrical problems. So I will be upgrading the rectifier and regulator and possibly redesigning the ignition system.

Greatings. Just recently moved to Perris, CA. The previous tenant of the house we are renting left behind a '77 KX750D. Looks like it sat outside for a year. Covered with dust and Black Widow spiders. It seems to have good compresion and only 8,250 miles on the clock. Should be an interesting restoration (my other projects are Honda CB's) and a nice sidecar setup.
