Question for bikers.
Your most dangerous hazard on the road are car drivers who are text messaging. But of your two choices (Gravel or Animal) I'd say Animal. Normally if you hit gravel you slide which is okay as long as it's not into a tree or another car. But hit an animal and you are going to have a very hard impact. If you are lucky you'll fly over the animal and lawn dart into the street and maybe be okay. Plus with gravel if you take a road often you can know where it's at and often times see it and prepare. Animals can come out of nowhere. But yeah hitting a kid holding a fluffy kitten. You might as well throw the cuffs on yourself because there is no talking you way out of that one. Even if you are in the right. Crying moms on a jury will hang you out to dry.

Wheelie trouble
Yeah. You do have to clutch it at a certain point if you want to do a good balance wheelie which is where it's at. You can also put it in 2nd and just blip the throttle so your bike comes up then goes down compressing the suspension then when it compresses and starts to raise hit the gas. It sucks getting use to bringing the wheel up. I still have trouble. My buddy from the vids learned to control his wheelies by buying a Yamaha Blaster ATV for cheap.

Wheelie trouble
Are you running on only 1 piston? The R1s main downfall is they made the front end so light that they wheelie too much. You should be able to put it in the air at 100mph/160kph no matter how your forks are. My buddy has had it in the air at 140mph/225kph. And the one time I rode it I wheelied it just getting on the gas gently and leaning forward. And whatever you do don't wheelie in first. To short of a gear with too much TQ. If this helps here are some videos of my buddy doing wheelies on his R1. He normally clutches it once he gets around 100kph. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_vMhyaZwU0 Is this R1 your first bike?

Luckily for us Motorcycle riders all the drivers here in the States have their cell phones stuck so far up their ass while they text message their IDK my BFF Jill that when there are motorcycle and vehicle accidents we are usually killed and can't be sued. So booya!!! We Win by Default!!!

Liability is the minimum insurance coverage you can get. What it does is covers the costs to other people's vehicles if YOU cause an accident. Say you run into the back of a Honda Accord on your bike. Your insurance will pay for the person's vehicle that you hit. But not your bike. If you hit a deer with your bike your insurance won't cover it. It will only cover other people that you hit. Same goes if someone hits you. THEIR insurance company will cover the cost of the bike. I have straight liability with a 25,000/50,000 medical coverage. If I wreck and I am injured my insurance will cover up to $25,000 in medical bills. Or if I injure someone else they'll cover up to $50,000 in medical bills for that person. With liability and medical it costs me $188 a year. It was $107 without medical. But if you are making payments on a bike you have to by law pay full coverage. Because in order to get a loan a loan company is going to hold on to the Title of the motorcycle. That way they can reposes it if you fail to make payments. Or if you total it out the loan company can be compisated for the loss. Those can be very expensive. I was going to get a brand new FZ6 from Yamaha. My insurance payments would have been $250 a month. I think that was more than my bike payments. And then get a R6 or some kind of 1000 and your insurance rates will be through the roof. Getting a used bike for cheap is the best thing you can do. Because I can wreck the bike and not have a care in the world (Providing I'm not dead).

If you don't have credit you can usually get a $1000 starter loan and buy a cheap used bike. That's what I did. I got a $1000 loan and paid $500 more of cash I got a motorcycle. Even your older bikes are still quick and fast enough to scare the poop out of you or kill you even. Yeah it's not as "Cool" as an R6 or an R1 but you'll be safer on it because it has less power and the bikes are more forgiving. If your main concern is what others will think of you then you have no business on a bike. I ride in a group that consists of 2 Yamaha R1s, Honda CBR1000 Repsol(God I want to have sex with that bike), Honda CBR929, Kawasaki ZX-9r, and a Suzuki Hyabusa. I'm on a 70hp Yamaha SecaII meaning every bike has twice as much HP as me. But they are a good group who looks out for each other and will say "Riding is riding no matter what you are riding". They couldn't care less what you ride. I know you can find mid90s CBR600s for $2k all day long. Those are 150mph capable bikes and still look decent. I saw a 1996 GSXR 750 for $2000 in good condition. Still a fast bike. Plus with a cheap $2k bike you can pay cash and only have to pay Liability which comes out to basically for most bikes $100 a year. And WHEN YOU DO lay your bike down you won't be as mad at the damage on it. So I'd hit up craigs list and just look for motorcycles for around $2000. Infact I'd look into the Suzuki SV650. They go for around $2500(Naked) and the SV650s(Top ferrings) go for around $3k and are good fast bikes. If you are concerned about how girls look at your bike. Most girls can't tell the difference between a 1990 CBR600 or a 2008 Yamaha R1. They just know it looks sporty and cool.

They are these large metal peg looking items that you usually mount on your swingarm(Where you bolt your wheel up) and on the ferrings. When you do lay your bike down it will help protect most of the plastic by sliding on the swingarm peg, ferrings peg and the metal ends of your handlebars. Just about everyone I know got them and say they are the best investment they made for their bike.

motorcycle crash statistics
You can crash at mach3 and come out okay as long as it takes a while for you to stop. Sliding isn't hte problem. Going from 70mph to 0 in .0000001 seconds is. Your organs can't handle the G-forces. That's why when watching racing such as Nascar, F1, motorcycles, drag racing, etc where they are going 200mph and roll violently down the track they come out okay. Because the energy was distributed through a long distance. And again if you go to Youtube and just put in "Motorcycle Crashes" you'll find thousands of videos of bikes crashing. Some from riding fast and others from stunting. And even the really bad looking ones the riders generally come out okay. Cars are the motorcyclist's biggest problem.

Of my friends who have been killed or injured seriously on bikes. Almost all where from other cars. Which all my friends stunt and ride fast and hard. Your biggest culprets are little ol' ladies and teenage girls texting away. Or Soccer moms busying changing DVDs in their SUV for their screaming kids. My 2nd day riding I should have been killed by some idiot in a Dodge Dully pulling a bobcat trailer doing 80mph around a turn Ghostrider wouldn't do 80mph around. I just got lucky becuase I pulled over to check my cell. If I didn't I would have been that statistic. And last weekend I had a woman merge on me. I grabbed the clutch and pinned it at the revlimiter to get her attention. And on that same night I had a car pull out of walmart in front of me causing me to swerve into the other lane(Luckily it was a 4lane road with an additional lane for turning. Despite the road was 100% clear behind me. People just don't notice bikes. Especially with text messaging becoming huge and everyone with their cells stuck up their ass. Infact you can try this. Go to Youtube.com and put in Motorcycle death, fatal, died, etc. Don't do Crash just keywords dealing with death. Most videos you see of motorcyclist getting killed involve other cars and usually not the bikes fault either. Now you can find plenty of crashing videos of motorcycles but in almost all of them they come out walking and even laughing about it.

The GSXR is what I like to call "The Choice of Squids". Everyone gets the GSXR just to get it if they are choosing a bike below the 1000s. Which they are great bikes but damn they are small. When I sat on one I might as well been on a pocket bike. You definetily want to keep your RPMs low while cornering. Atleast for now until you get familiar with the bike. You just have to know when your power kicks in. For now make sure you get some really good gear. Don't skimp out on the helmet most of all. And then get a decent Kevlar jacket, pants, gloves, and boots. And some good frame sliders. I'd also fine a local track where you can open the bike up at and see your limits. With a good set of frame sliders your bike damage generally won't be too bad. Plus tracks have paramedics on hand and can get life flight in their quickly if it comes down to that. Basically use your head and respect the bike.

What's more dangerous? Highway or City Streets?
I hate highways. But Atlanta highways are some of the worste in the U.S. if not the world. You'll run 90mph with a car on your ass and you being shoved up the ass of the other car with cars surrounding you. So I take city streets because I've always had good reactions to bad situations while driving. Even when I use to drink and drive. Not anymore but when I was younger I would all the time. My favorite roads are the roads that are moderatly hilly but long hills with 4 lanes and the 2 lanes being sperated by a large patch of grass. There is a road near me that I take to get to the beach. It's beautiful and relaxing but you can run highway speeds.

R6 < FZ6 Fazer ?
Sorry. I thought the FZ6 was a V-twin. By clutching (Providing the FZ6 was a V-twin) I mean that on Inline 4s to keep in the power you need to be in your higher RPMs. Especially with underpowered I-4s. While V-twins can romp on power from low RPMs which is great if for mountain riding where you are constantly accelerating and slowing and twisting to only go up nad down hills. It's why many mountain riders love Buells so much despite how much they break. Because they are short, light, have low center of gravity and tons of low end TQ.

who rubbers you prefer?
From what I've heard the Michelin Pilots are the best tires on the market. The only problem is they don't last long because they are a soft compound. But if you are into carving up curvy roads they are worth it. I just got a new rear tire today. It's a Bridgestone Battlax 140/70-18. My rim is 18" while most are 16 and 17s. That was the best tire I could get for my size rim. Which I like how it handles and it feels great and is suppose to last long. Speaking of rubbers before I got my tire I decided to roast the old one off... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl1d8hH5gYA

R6 < FZ6 Fazer ?
I haven't ridden and FZ6 but have ridden it's competitor the Suzuki SV650s. I believe the FZ6 is a V-twin which gives it good low end power. That is great if you are carving up mountain roads where you are constantly going up down and around. Plus a FZ6 isn't going to get out from under you like an R6 would. Nor do you have to clutch as much as you do with the inline 4s.

IT's the torque man. The torque is what's going to mess you up. It can get on the rear wheel before you know it. Or worse yet you sneeze too hard in a turn you'll loop it out. The only reason the 600s can hang is becuase the 1000s are so powerful that there is only so much throttle you can give it before you flip. Here is some vids of my buddy doing wheelies on his 02 R1 that was ragged out with 25K miles on it. Now he can ride. But he started on a CBR600F3 and rode dirtbikes since he was 8. And even when he did get the R1 he was scarred to do any wheelies on it because of how hard it is to control. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_vMhyaZwU0 Notice how easily he can get up on one wheel even when he is on top of the gas tank. But since you do have it now and don't plan to take it back I guess his vids can give you some referrence. But it doesn't take much. I rode it once and I put it on the rear wheel and had no clue. He asked me "Did you feel the handle bars get light". But I was gripping it so hard I didn't notice and I didn't think I was getting on it hard. My best advice is to keep it in higher gears. Use first to just get started then put it in 2nd or 3rd and keep it in the low RPMs. Because you'd rather stall out than redline on accident. And also if you get the throttle yank from when you freeze up just remember to grab the clutch and how many RPMs you pull doesn't matter. Good luck with it but honestly if you can get something else I'd do it. Having a 600 or even say an FZ6 (Which is perfect beginner bike) isn't as cool as an R1. But they are far more forgiving. Do get some vids if you can and find a racing school too. That way you can get a better idea on how to handle a powerful bike like the R1

The 2008 R6
They are nice but there is a yellow one that has black flames. Here is a picture... It comes pre-squidly.

r6 questions
That's an R1. Not sure of the year. Are you a new rider or do you have riding experience? If you have none then cross off the R1 off your list.

new bike
Your first step should be take it back to the dealership and trade it in for a 600. Is this your first bike? I mean street bike not dirtbikes or 4wheelers. I have video of my buddy sitting on the gas tank of a ragged out R1 and popping it up on the back wheel at 70mph. Those bikes are stupid powerful and wicked fast. And they are really easy to loose in a turn if you aren't careful. If you really are a beginner rider I'm being serious. Get rid of it and get at the most a 600. You'll still hang with the R1s up to 100mph but a lot less torque which is what gets you.

Cops
I saw that before. Looks like Squid to me. A clear road at 1am and running into the back of a large Tractor Trailer. Seems odd to just hit the truck on what was probably a fairly clear road. Plus notice the Clean White Jacket and the helmet with no DOT or Snell stickers on the back. I wonder what kind of bike it was.
-
Cops
I'd say so. They are a bad idea for any vehicle really. Cops just have to flip a switch and their radar is going off. It's not like years ago where it had to constantly run. I do love those radars they stick on the side of the road. I always try to see how fast I can blow by them. Now if you are being trailed by the Italian Lamborghini Police car I guess that woudl be a good time to pull over. You'd be on a R1 doing 190 and they'll be next to you doing 200 waving at you and saying "Please pull over. We have Air Conditioning unlike you so give up".
-
Cops
If you do get pulled over and a cop sees a Radar detector on your bike you might as well write yourself the ticket. Most people I know just bolt when they see the blue lights. Not hard to get away. In the county I live in here in Georgia(USA) if you attempt to run in a go-kart they aren't suppose to persue you. The only reason is if you have a warrant for your arrest that involves violent/severe crime such as Rape, Murder, Drugs, Assault, etc. Even if they get your tag a lawyer will eat that alive so bad that by the time he craps it out your toughest decision is wether to stay and listen to the judge apalogize for wasting your time. Most cops leave bikes alone because they don't want to bother persuing it. Lot's of times they'll hit their lights to see if you are going to stop but just act like you are assuming it's not for you. If he does turn around then you can bolt or just take your ticket. However you do get those cops who just want a chase and will go after a 90year old grandma for a rush.

The 2008 R6
Yeah. Those are pretty sweet. Especially your Euro versions. The American versions suck. Especially the Yellow one with black flames. Makes me want to puke. For the Yellow one Yamaha might as well throw in a 3ft chrome swingarm, chrome dome helmet, and a black vest so all you have to do to be ready to ride is sew your Biker Gang Logo on it.

Gotta strange quiestion..w/pics
Holy Crap it's Chips!!! I couldn't tell the difference but odds are it's a Kawasaki. Like you said same bike different name. Reminds me of those guys who buy those Harley Davidsons that look like Honda Goldwings. The only way you can tell a difference is the Gold Wing is on the Road and not in the shop like the Harley.
