thats a lovely looking bike jimmy. does it sound as nice as it looks? i saw one of the new Triumph Tridents in Lyme Regis last week, along with a new Rocket and a Thunderbird i think it was? looked a bit Harley like.

i try to make the most of any good weather, you never know when it will come to an end in England! this is why i go out early in the mornings. im usually up between 5 and 6am, so i can get a 2 or 3 good hours in before the roads start filling up. and by then my old joints are usually ready to call it a day anyway 🤣 are you still on the stock rear suspension?

the only time ive leaned a bike over that far is when we've parted company on the road

no idea? i toured Wales on a TZR125 about thirty years ago. went with a mate who had just changed his RD125 for a GS850. i think he dropped the bike at a stand still 4 times on that trip, including on me at Caernarfon castle! we didnt spend much time down south, preferred the middle and north. sounds like you need a motorbike and sidecar combo Mike

thanks for the suggestion Mike. ive often found myself in Wilts, i usually head to Salisbury then just follow my nose. i love the colours in the countryside at this time of year.

went out early this morning (Saturday 6:45am). weather was lovely, clear blue skies and mild. got a couple of hours of fun riding in on fairly quiet roads. it started getting busy about 9, so i headed back home. today was a good day 👍

the only times i seem to be able to avoid heavy traffic in daylight are early mornings at the weekend (pre 9am) and late on Sunday evenings. i took the Ace down the country lanes between Hampshire and Wiltshire, just to get away from all the cars. i got lost for about an Hour and ended up in Salisbury. to be honest, i think the bike is just too big and heavy for those types of roads though. i think a Royal Enfield might be in my future.

how am i supposed to enjoy a ride out when there are so many cars on the roads😡

the Blue flame cans caught my eye too. i remember spending a few weeks wages on a Allspeed exhaust for my little 2 stroke back in the day. looked nice but i dont think it made the bike any faster... nor did ramming a bar down the center of the original pipe.

what are peoples opinions, do they offer any improvements other than sound or do they only benefit from tuning? any particular brand suit the ace?

it rained for most of the day here. ive replaced the fork oil and lowered the yokes 5mm on the forks since i last rode the bike. one of the forks had a 20mm larger air gap than the other and the springs are at their service limit. hopefully ill notice a difference in the handling when i do get back out.

the old plugs were gapped correctly at 0.6. i was reading the imperial side of my feeler gauge. im a right numpty! i only ride in dry weather theses days, southern softy that i am

had another play today, the bikes now running properly. it was my incompetence that caused the problem. the plugs come preset by NGK. i misread the feeler gauge and set the gap to 0.2mm. set the gap to 0.6mm and bikes running properly. i am now a happy bunny. thanks for all the help folks just need some good weather now so i can go out and play.

maybe the Haynes manual has the incorrect spec for the plugs? hopefully will have another bash at things tomorrow.

thank you for the suggestion. i think ill put the old plugs back in first and take it from there. i just assumed the gaps on the plugs had widened over a couple of decades of running. the fact that every time ive played with the caps the running has improved, made me think the problem was above the plugs.

yes. i set the gaps to the recommended 0.6mm. curiously all the old plugs had gaps well over 2mm. from the begining- first time i started bike after plug change it sounded awful and would just cut out instantly. so i went back, rechecked the plugs and then looked at the coil. all the plug caps were very badly corroded inside and three of them wouldnt even grip the plugs because theyed lost the little springs inside that grab the plug thread. cleaned them as best i could then tried again. this time the bike would run on choke but had a bad missfire . third attempt with the new caps, bike starts keenly and ticks over on choke, very occasional slight misfire, but increases when revved. bike stalls if choke full off. this is why i thought the problem was with the caps?

its the correct plugs, identical to the ones i removed. NGK DR8EA. i might try putting the old plugs back in. it is a pig of a job though

the caps were about 10mm smaller than the originals, the internals were smaller too, so couldnt swap over. i fitted them, the bike still isnt right, but is a lot better. it has a missfire when revving and will only idle on the choke. the bike was fine before i changed the spark plugs, which i believe were the originals and had never been touched. the caps kept twisting on the ht leads rather than screwing tight, could this cause an issue?

the thought of grease inside brake calipers scares me. now that im a fair weather rider, i just clean the insides occasionally, no grease or copperslip.
