  1. Just as an update, this is done... I took it to work and suspended it from a forklift in the shop just before Christmas! I was right to be worried, it turned into a bit of a pig of a job. The bearings were trashed in the suspension rocker (not something I knew I should be keeping an eye on.), once out, it turned out that I had a faulty rocker anyway, the central hole necks down in the middle, and mine was cast off centre!!! It wasn't by much, but it put pressure on the bearings, which is probably what trashed them in the first place. E-Bay and motorcycle breakers solved that problem with a new rocker that frankly looked almost brand new with perfect bearings still in it! Unfortunately, once all back together, it turned out that my rear shock has failed..! So, as a bonus question: Would I be better off: a/ Getting mine reconditioned (assuming it's possible)? b/ Getting a replacement from E-Bay? c/ Buying an aftermarket shock? I'm currently leaning towards 'b' AND then later 'a', which will give me a spare... Thoughts? P.S. WOW!!! EIGHT months later! I like the V-Strom, but man, I miss my Thunderace, this needs sorting out soon for the good weather! lol I think I'm gonna run the V-Strom over winters and the Ace for the nice months from now on...

  5. Not that I know anything about this, but... It's got to be an immobiliser problem, the key isn't actually present, so the immobiliser won't be disabled.
  6. I've got Michelin Road 5 Tyres on my Thunderace and I love them. You'd have to check if they do them in your size though... But on further inspection, there appears to be a Michelin Road 6 now which has improved even more!!!
  7. Just down the road from me, get yourself to Squires if you don't already lol. Do your DAS, then the YBR troubles solve themselves when you get a bigger bike!
  8. To be honest, I've no idea what 'air induction' actually is. However... If it's REALLY not required, then all you need to do is screw a bolt into the rubber tube. Problem solved!

  16. Oh... That's not what I was expecting at all!!! Are you 100% certain it's MEANT to come off? You may have to make a tool to fit it perfectly. Then stick it in a vice, heat up the nut so it glows then douse the exhaust (not the nut) with cold water and give it some taps while leaning on your tool... I was thinking about a nut splitter, but that's not suitable for those at all, and being chromed isn't going to help at all. Looking at this diagram: Yamaha RXS100 1983 EXHAUST supplied next day (UK only) by Fowlers Parts It appears there's a gasket under that too! Can you get the muffler out of the can? You'll need to do this if you're going to get it chromed. You'll also need to know what state it's in. And since it doesn't look like you can get one of those anymore, you may have to get one manufactured if it's not good... Yambits have one (probably have the gasket too)... Yambits : for Yamaha bikes
  17. There's no substitute for a good thick chrome coat... It's not going to be cheap, but it will be a lot cheaper than getting a good one! As for the nut, you may have to consider it a sacrificial part and split it. You got a picture of it?

  20. No. You get used to it... But I did buy a triboseat (Thunderace – Triboseat) for the pillion seat, that stopped 'our lass' from sliding forward and crushing my nuts..! But I am looking at seat covering materials because I want to make myself a custom pair of seats. Re-shape the rear seat to give more stability for 'our lass' and just look a little more flash...
  21. Oh God, yes, this! Mine came with braided hoses so I never even thought about it! If it doesn't have them, change all your hoses to metal braided!!!
  22. Correct me if I'm wrong, but like cars, if the clutch bites high, that's good, if it bites low, that's bad... Do you have the original leavers on? The originals are quite long and have a high standing. Custom leavers will bring the bite closer, however, there's the possibility that it will stop the clutch coming completely off because there's not enough throw on the hydraulics. The Ace got the tag 'sports tourer' quite quickly because it was a parts bin bike that they made as a stopgap before the R1. It was just relegated early. As for the slippery seat. Your ideal riding position on the Ace is with your nuts pressed up to the tank (adjust as required (preferably privately...)). If you find you're slipping around, get some tank grips for your legs. That will solve your problem.
