    Thanks kirriePete, the rattle can be heard and felt on the alternator not the other side but I suppose it migh be transmiting through ? but it sounds a bit heavy for the oil pump drive pin more of a light clonk every now and again. Keith.

    Hi all can anybody tell me if the Alternator on my 1999 XJ900s has a rubber shock type drive or is it direct ? as it seems to be rattling a bit on tick over, and I can not find any comment about it in the manual. Keith
