thanks all, hopefully it will be ready tomorrow or Saturday
  2. I went to this Yamaha Service Centre May this year as a number of people had recommended it and apparently it has been around for a while. Dropped my bike off at 8:30am. Staff were nice, helpful and rushed my bike through the service (at my request, hate getting trains!) and picked it up at 5pm. After about 5 minutes I noticed the front end was bouncing quite a bit. I assumed this was due to the rubber bits that stick out of new tyres, until common sense kicked in and I realised tiny bits of rubber would not make my front end bounce. I stood up and looked at my front wheel (when it was safe of course) and noticed that it appeared to be bulging. When I finally got home I noticed it had not been fitted properly and had to reseat it myself. (which after paying £200+ for service and parts was not really ideal!) Not sure how dangerous it is to have the tire in this condition. I took a video and sent it to the service centre manager as it is difficult to demonstrate with a photo how badly it was bulging just because a small section of the tire bead was not against the rim. I know mistakes happen and I did ask them to rush it through. I suppose what I have learnt from this is always check over your bike after letting other people play with it so you can address problems straight away! I guess many here service their own bikes but if you know of any reliable Yamaha specialists in London let me know

haha! Wasn't just close, visor was open, landed on my lip and then started crawling around. I panicked first and thought I'm gonna pull over, or flip up the front of the helmet while driving, then I thought, whatever, I'll just forget about it..

So after 2 years, many close calls, one broken arm and a lot of money spent I finally have a full license. Passed on Tuesday on second test. Almost stopped caring half way through, thinking I'd failed but apparently not. Also had a wasp join me inside my helmet for the last half. Which was lovely.

Other than hands, cold usually doesn't bother me too much. Recently tried nitrile gloves under normal ones, while this worked fairly well for 30-45 minute ride, wouldn't recommend it for much longer because obviously they don't breathe and get pretty soggy. But if its freezing and you need to get somewhere and you have these in your garage - not too bad

If the sound is definitely coming from the transmission I guess it could be damaged bearings or sprockets.
  9. Nice, did you need to configure it at all (ratio? as you mentioned - useful to know if it does come up again) Does it plug straight into speedo cable? Would be good to see pictures.

How many miles has it done? When you say 'free rolling' do you mean moving with the clutch pulled in? (Sorry not heard this expression before)

I do not know anything about the specific models mentioned. One thing that concerns me about electric vehicles is the lack of noise, especially when you are on a bike. I realise you could create a sound, but using power to create this seems like a waste. Especially when, as slice says, they are already rather limited on range/performance. Also are they really any more environmentally friendly, sure they do not use fossil fuels, but you can be fairly certain the machines they use to gather the materials are not electric and I believe production of these vehicles is more intensive than standard ones. (This paper has some stuff about the impact of lithium ion batteries)
  14. How damaged is the meter unit? You could possibly replace only the parts needed, which would be cheaper though possibly more work. I am not an expert on this, but I have had a look at the YBR service manual and there is no mention of ratio - my assumption was that if a speedo cable fitted into the meter, it would read the speed? (The only inaccuracy I can think of would be due to wheel size?- could be wrong - and I am not sure if there are any legal requirements on accuracy here.) This site (MSP) has an exploded view of the meter which may useful in helping to work out which bit you may need if you don't go for non-stock, or for a repair in the meantime. (Though this is for YBR125ED 2014) Also alternatively you can get non stock speedos which use magnets to measure speed. These may be easier to set up.

    Hello and welcome
  16. Not sure if this has been posted previously; Obviously this driver is an idiot, but I probably wont be having a go at any drivers and then riding in front of them.

Oh I thought this was a comment on the bike itself? Thanks I am familiar with most of this stuff. Fortunately it has been fairly simple for me as I started riding at 25 and have gone straight to direct access. Hopefully next week I will have a full license.

The thing that bothers me about the MT-07 is the rear end and passenger seat. Which is why I was consider 09. Im not sure what you mean by 'restricted to horsepower' is that a bad thing? I like the xj6 but have found it a bit uncomfortable after a couple hours. Maybe I have short arms. I will mainly be using for commuting and the occasional long journey. Think I will have to test ride a few and see what suits. But I'm fairly impulse and have been waiting for 2 years now!

Sorry if this comes up all the time from new riders! I was wondering if anyone has any advice on the first bike after gaining full license? At the moment the most advice I have had is 'Buy whatever you want, something shiny that looks nice and you will learn from there' - which I think is pretty sound. At the moment options I am considering are: MT-07 or 09 XJ6 FZ6 S2 (2009/10 I think) - Really like the design of this bike, but not sure how easy it is to find. If anyone has any strong opinions about any of these let me know

It is frustrating to fail over the little things, but also I suppose I was glad that it was something easy to fix and nothing to do with my capabilities as a rider!

Thanks for the reply slice. All parts are brand new OEM. Two weeks ago a bolt came out and smashed into the swingarm, locking up rear wheel and cracking the 'clutch hub/cush drive' so I replaced all bolts and the clutch hub. I am not great with torque but 19ft lbs doesn't sound like a lot so I did not want to over tighten. They are not sticking out but they are loose, I think you are correct, I will have to remove it all and double check using a torque wrench. Otherwise I assume the threads will get damaged and I will be starting from scratch again with all new parts. Looks like public transport again until the weekend!

Good luck. I've been riding the 125 for almost 2 years. I failed my first Mod 1 because my boot touched a cone on the swerve whilst going for the brake! And now I've failed my first Mod 2 because apparently I did not look over my shoulder when changing lanes (I disagree but what can you do!) So from my experience make sure you tuck your feet in and make sure all your observations are theatrically obvious. It is frustrating and expensive but hopefully you have a better time than me!

Hi everyone, I am new here, and new to using forums in general. I have been riding for almost 2 years and currently own a 2010 YBR 125. I feel I would like to stick with Yamaha, over the past 2 years I have trained on a FZ6 and XJ6 and loved both of them. I have always been an amateur engineer, not so bad when I am fixing PC's/DVD players, but figured I would join for advice from more experienced people as if I mess up it could be painful!

Hi, This is possibly a silly question; should the bolts for the rear sprocket (attaching the sprocket to what in the manual is called the 'clutch hub') be tight? My problem is that in order to make the edges of the retaining plate flush against the bolt, some were left slightly loose. I have been checking them periodically and they have not moved, but will this cause an issue in the future? The manual states the torque should be 2.6kgf/m (if I can dig out a torque wrench I will test this) but if the bolts are not flush with the retaining plate but tight is this not also an issue? Any advice appreciated. (ideally I would like the sprocket bolts to stay in place and not loose another chain tensioner and clutch hub/cush drive!)
