Thanks heaps, this is probably a stupid question but do I need the rectifier to run the bike?

I started my riding life on a 77 DT100 and now my partner has got a 79 DT125, needs a fair bit of work though, but will be fun once completed.

Hi guys, I have a 1979 DT125 and I require help in identifying the wires that come out of the magneto, I am trying to get spark, the wires coming from the magneto are yellow, black with white stripe, green with white strip. Im not sure how to upload a pic, sorry.
