  1. So. Mots booked. Got my spare oil and tools in case I run into issues on route to mot lol. I've got 3.3 miles to bed the front and rear pads in. Excited!
  2. Sorry was thinking GBP when i read your 100. I Suppose £50 isnt too bad knowing ill actually be able to see at night haha. Then again this is going to be a toy. So i doubt it will be ridden at night much.
  3. 100 is a bit steep. Was kind of hoping a higher wattage bulb would do. Ahhh ok ill have a play closer to mot time. Thanks mate. Needs it's panels putting on and the seat is currently being recovered.
  4. Cheers dude! :-) idle was a tad fast, but it was on the choke. I was really surprised by the lack of smoke. i thought the amount of oil we put in the head would have needed to burn off at some point during the first start. the no plug was such a fail, All i wanted to do was kick it over and i had completely forgotten about me buying the replacement plug 2 weeks ago and not fitting it haha. live and learn hey... also a slight hanging idle on blip of the throttle, think its just mixture atm. I'll try and get a video of the light setup for you mate, i lowered the idle speed and the LED's flicker a little bit, but as soon as im on any kind of rev's its as bright as anything One thing i will say thought is the front bulb isnt bright at all. Anyone recommend a replacement?
  5. Little bit embarrasing but ill let you watch the video to see my down fall... HOWEVER, it lives and all the lights work etc. popped it into 1st gear and the clutch felt fine (as did the gears) Im still very poor, so as of the 31'st ill be getting the MOT booked and taken on its first real ride. Finished around 3:15pm today so didn't want to run it up the road living so close to multiple 1st schools. In other news ive had my almax chains (1 for front, 1 for rear and subframe) and ground anchor (poured reinforced concrete into the garage floor) im now a bit more secure. :-)
  6. Not a big reply but............... Swingarm bearings done, so all ive got to do is whack the swingarm back on and put the carb on.....then it may just be.... MOT TIME WOOOOOO
  7. Right, So the correct kit has arrived (yesterday) so im just waiting for a day to pop to my friend ians to get the old shells out and new ones pressed in. Then its hopefully put it all back together and MOT. I still havnt gotten round to fitting the plug and carb again. so maybe ill do that tonight Updates soon
  8. Sadly after going between wemoto and all balls themselves turns out it's not the kit I need. I have however got the correct kit coming this week. It's literally mot then :-)
  9. Kit's arrived, hopefully getting pressed in place tomorrow with my friends press: However im still not sure this kit has what i need. Any ideas? http://www.allballsracing.com/swing-arm-and-linkage/27-1088.html http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1999/WR400FL+%28DEEP+PURPLISH+BLUE+SOLID+E%29/REAR+ARM/parts.html
  10. I've ordered http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/yamaha/wr_400_fm/00/picture/monoshock_-_linkage_rebuild_kit/
  11. Will the YZ bearing kits fit the WR? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALL-BALLS-SWINGARM-BEARING-KIT-YAMAHA-YZ-400-F-YZ400-F-1999-/390944510930?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5b061bd3d2
  12. had a not so great day yesterday. got home, my mate Steve came over and we got to work on the bike. Good news: Engines back in However my mate Ian chucked away the spark plug which was in it without telling me so we were going to start her last night but i didn't have a damn plug! oh well, probably for the best to run it in on a new plug. So looks like a frauds trip tonight. bit more together: Bad news: As you can probably tell from the pictures, I'm missing a component off the rear of the bike....... whilst taking the rear engine mounts out of the swing arm they bearings collapsed in my hands, the needle bearings are shot and have been a while by the looks of things :S So.... Swing arm was removed and ill be getting a new bearing kit for it. whilst also cleaning it up/potentially polishing it :-) Can anyone recommend a bearing kit for the bike? Thanks Ross.
  13. Right, little update before its running: After a load of issues including a bent valve the engines back together, with polished exhaust ports :-) Went over to Bromsgrove to collect it today: Finally home on the garage floor in the stand Ian made for me. Ian/Dan/Steve may be coming over this week to help me lift the engine in place and get her fired up. excited is an understatement. Will update by the end of the week hopefully Almost forgot, I bought her a new ait filter too! :-) would have been rude not too...
  14. Yeah, to be fair there is quite a few bad casting marks, but i wasnt sure how much it would actually affect the engine in the real world. That's actually what my friend Ian does, he works for one of the worlds best engine casters. i know i think the frame paint and general condition will let the bike down a little bit especially with all the engine work being done. But like you say having a nice solid bike is better than having a bling POS in the garage that cant be ridden. The other thing is, Once its done i think it may be going up for sale as im in desperate need of a car to collect my daughter from the childminders. guess we shall see.
  15. hahaha was waiting for someone to notice id only gone about half an inch in. Waiting on some longer and better Dremel bits to do further into the run. Also going to attack from the other side and cover the valve seats as much as possible so they are not damage. Realistically i don't think ill gain much doing this so its completely smooth inside. However my friend explained air sheers when flowing through an object. So creating less drag on the outside of the air creates lets sheering, thus improving air flow into out of the engine. (he used big technical words and wrote down the equation and referenced some laws)...... i didn't have a clue what he was saying if im honest. Give me a Netapp and some virtual hosts and its all gravy.
  16. Small update (cant really do much until i get my valve) Stand got painted and had some end caps put on the metal, Painted Red I visited my friend the weekend whose got the engine, We decided to get my dremel out and do some sanding of the exhaust ports. Need some Autosol as i got it very smooth, just not mirror finish that i want. left the intake ports well alone. Before: After: Valves here this week i believe, So either a week night or weekend job :-)
  17. My friend Ian has also made it a nice engine stand, whilst the works being carried out. I've watched some port/polishing guides and im just going to polish the exhaust ports, and leave the rest alone.
  18. Thanks dude, was only going to play with the exhaust port anyways/clean up burrs. Exhaust port will hopefully be mirror finished. Just trying to decide if i do it with my dremel or by hand with wet and dry.
  19. Heads been parts washed and ice blasted, Supposedly the parts wash wasnt lifting the deep grime off: Before: After: Looking much better i reckon. My single valve got dispatched today :-) also ordered some dremel tools so i can clean up the porting on the exhaust etc.
  20. bad times.... Well as you all know from above, my head was built and ready to go on. So Dan and Ian came over Saturday and we started work :-) coffee at the ready: Unfortunately we found a problem when attempting to fit the no3 inlet bucket Well it turns out the no3 inlet valve was bent, so the spring wasn't sitting right, causing the bucket to not go in straight/snag. This is how I've left the bike: My mate Ian has taken the entire engine back to his to hopefully run the head through a parts washer and rebuild once my new parts arrive. I've ordered a single inlet valve and new stem seals again. 9th-15th Sept for my delivery from the USA. very frustrated now..., as through no fault of my own the bikes not on the road. we did manage to bleed my front brake mind, so not a fully wasted day... arhghghghggh
  21. Its done!, heads got the new valves in, all lapped and ready to go. Just need to pop to my mates to collect the head off him, refit cams and shim. re-fit the head and test fire her up :-) its just wire in rear light, bleed front brake and MOT...oh maybe get some fuel and do some engine tuning to get her running right.  :dirtbike:
  22. Yeah, I honestly dont have the mechanical know how to do this myself. Would have been a builder/garage job otherwise so i am extremely grateful. Im a computer guy :-) who enjoys bikes
  23. Old valve stem seals out: Started lapping the valves: all done by my mate ian - works in engine development Valve spring compressor on: Custom tool made by ian gave us a perfect amount of room to fit the collets: 1 new valve installed: Unfortunately thats as far as we got. My friend Ian's car ran out of MOT the other day and he hadnt realised. Hes since also found a lot of rot on his car which needs welding. so obviously his daily vehicle takes priority. I've got Friday off so im hopefully going to finish the valves then. reinstall head over the weekend and book an mot for the following weekend/week. Cheers Ross.
  24. Also my friend custom made a valve spring compressor just for me :-) good friends or what?!! Head finally being rebuilt tonight. I may have Friday off so the engine may go back together then too... then maybe MOT the following week. EXCITEDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
  25. woohooo Stem seal kits arrived and so have my fuel hose/filter. Just need to sort getting over to my friends house to rebuild the head fully now. Ross.
