Vehicles manufactured or registered before 1 January 1973 are classed as historic vehicles and attract a nil rate of duty. However, to ensure that the vehicles are roadworthy and documentation such as MoT and insurance are current, a nil rate tax disc must be displayed in the vehicle. If the vehicle is kept off-road and has not had a licence since 31 January 1998, there is no requirement to declare SORN. However, if the vehicle has held a licence since this date, it is essential that an annual SORN declaration be made. Damn, I missed this by about 8 months

Right guys, I have a 1973 YR5F which is in need of refurb, has not been used on the road since 1981. Do I need to contact DVLA and get a SORN? I want to keep the original registration number plate for authenticity. Cheers for your thoughts guys

Cheers for the welcome, based in Bedford. I'll check out the other forums you suggested, thanks :-)

Well that didn't work - why is that picture not displaying - anyone?

YR5F in Proddy trim at the '77 Manx GP - I'll try and dig out some pics of the YAS1 too

My first bike was a YAS1, went like a rocket for a 125, brilliant bike, and what about the registration number, TTT5H! I px'd it for a brand new YR5F from Commerfords for £363 - still got that one btw. Did two Manx Grand Prix on it in Proddy trim

Hi everyone, Thought I would rejoin this group - I was a member a long time ago (1973) when I bought my YR5F from Commerfords - which I still have! Looking for info on locating spares for the old girl as I would like to spruce her up a bit. Specifically looking for headlight glass, front mudguard, chain guard, air box & filter and air box to carb rubbers. Any leads would be appreciated, cheers John
