See if you can snap some pics of the stripped hole. I'm curious to see what it looks like. Helicoils work well on blind holes. They can be iffy on a thru hole. Not always. The m/c shop will tell you the best way to make the repair. They may say they want to weld the hole up and re-tap as the best solution.

I'm assuming that the bores are free from any scoring? If so, that's good. Get them to measure first. Before honing. You need to get the std. bore measurement specs to be able to compare. Look in your manual. Sometimes they will give a ring-end-gap spec. That determines if the bore needs to go up. I'm guessing that all will be good and only need a honing. The honing will rough up the cylinder walls and help with lubrication. Sorry, started this post and didn't finish before others posted. Got sucked into taking Christmas decorations down.

Keep soaking it with penetrating oil and prying gently. Where you can, use wood to pry against. I'm not sure exactly where it is stuck. You might be able to use a little heat to help too.

Think of the new tools you get to buy from completing this whole exercise. Tell you the truth, it just gets worse. You'll get the cylinders off. Sounds like they need some persuasion. You'll get it. Just don't score anything. No need to be costing yourself any extra $$

The m/c shop will be able to get hold of the proper heli-coil size - if they don't have it on hand. I'd almost be tempted to spray it after it's all back together. Will save you time taping. If I remember, you need to do your stator cover as well. Put it all together and paint it all at once.

Yammy head gasket for sure! Personally, I always try to stick with OEM gaskets, others may diss agree.

DT, Just a question, not being a d@ck, just curious - how do you know that the current pistons are for stock bore? I think you are correct, since you typically don't do a lot of re-boring on 4T's unless something catastrophic happened. Is that your thinking? Pistons for my bike typically have something stamped on the crown, so it's fairly easy to identify. With 2T, you never know what re-bore you're on.

Just make sure NOTHING gets into the bottom end or you will be taking it apart for cleaning. The m/c shop needs to make absolutely sure of this.

Nice job getting it apart. From the pics (always hard to tell exactly), it looks like the bores are in good shape. You should check the ring end-gap (follow the manual). If all is good, give the cylinders a hone. You can buy a honing stone and do that your self. Another tool for the collection. I'd be cleaning those pistons off. One cylinder looks like it's running slightly leaner than the others (slightly lighter brown vs black). I don't think that is the cylinder with the leak at the bottom, is it? Regardless, it doesn't look too significant.

I think that you have to pull everything down to the surface that has the pooched hole. The machinist will need to see the hole and have access to it for the repair. He'll probably need the section above as well to make sure that he has the hole centered.

Do you have a metric set of sockets? 12mm is a pretty common size, it should have came with a basic set. Buy it if you need it.

How NOT to Take a Corner
I haven't added my comments about the actual video yet. So, here it is. I've been playing it over and over trying to get the just of what feliks might have been thinking and what he did. From what I can see, he was too wide going into the corner to begin with. For the speed he was going, he should have been more in the on-coming traffic lane (closer to the stop sign). This wouldn't have required so much of a mid-corner correction. I think he he realized this early in the turn. Not sure if he felt that he couldn't correct in time. If so, natural reaction is to grab a handful of brake. I'm not sure where the wobble came in or why. I think, grabbing so much brake caused the wobble - the trail shortened too much and caused instability. Trail shortens during breaking also when the front tire is turned in. These together can cause instability if the trail shortens too much. Once the wobble happened, concentration on anything else like speed, location, etc. went out the window. It was most likely 'left a skid in your shorts' and feliks went into crash avoidance mode. Hey, I've been there many times before. I don't know if that's what really happened. I was just trying to observe and compare to what might have went thru my head if I was there. Regardless, made a good recovery and lived to tell the tale.

You're going to have to pull the cylinders off and inspect what the bores look like. If all is good i.e. no scoring, then you need to find what size the current bore is. That will determine what size of rings you buy. I suggest you hone the cylinders before installing new rings. If the cylinders are badly scored, then a rebore will be needed. The cylinders will need to be bored to a std overbore size. The new bore size will then determine the ring kit (and possibly pistons) you buy. The m/c shop will tell you.

My advice. Make sure you have a centre stand or bike stand. Maybe you can borrow one for a bit (if you don't have one). You need to make sure your bike is stable before you start. You might need a hand when it actually comes to pulling the motor when disconnected.
