Ignition timing is 3.2mm BTDC but on points engines there is no adjustment other than a small variation by adjusting the points gap, opening the gap advances the ignition, closing it retards it!, gap should be 0.3 to 0.4mm or 12 to 16thou in old money. Cheers, Martin
  2. Hi Dan, assuming that the slide is returning fully to the idle position , look for an air leak on the inlet manifold, could be a split in the inlet rubber. Hope this helps, Martin

Hi gang, I have just aquired a 1980 DT250 in super condition, however, the engine has all the symptoms of a too rich throttle slide, runs fine at tickover and when starting to pull away, open throttle to between 1/8 and 1/4 and it four strokes, give it a big handfull and it clears with an occassional misfire. I have checked the reeds for damage, they are OK, the carb is a 30mm Mikuni with 150 main jet, 50F33 needle and 1.5 slide. Carb is not flooding. Exhaust is standard except for Fresco silencer. I have machined slides in the past on 2 stroke carbs to get the mixture just right and am happy to machine the 1.5 but would like to know if 1.5 is correct or if it has been incorrectly fitted (anything can happen with a 27 year old bike!!) Thanks in advance, Martin
