Took out for first ride today after changing oil and when it hits the powerband it sounds like the clutch is slightly slipping

Surley if water is circulating round the rad though will it not still cool it in the summer what does expansion tank actually do.its only got a bottle cap on it from a evian water bottle as a cap which isnt a great fit so maybe its stopling it from pressurising

ok tahnks sorry am used to working on cars lol will get the thermostat out tomoro and if faulty probably just leave it out as i doubt i need it on a 125 .thanks

would the thermostat not stop the coolant in the rad from heating up though as thats getting nice and warm and bike doesnt seem to be overheating.yeh its a ongoing project lol its on the road but seems like things have been bodged on it for the last 10 years.just needs tidying up really and a few bits here and there

Hi my 2003 dtr125 project I have now noticed yet another fault lol the rad radiator pipes and coolant in the rad and around the head is nice and warm and a blue colour but I noticed the expansion bottle under rear panel was empty after filling it and riding it for a couple of days the bottle doesnt get warm and the water I put in there isnt mixing with the antifreeze in the rad and head etc any thoughts on what the fault could be dont seem to bw losing any coolant now so dont no why it was empty and level hasnt changed doesnt seem to overheat but temp gauge sender is currently faulty and needs replacing as always reads hot even when bike is not running and ignition is sqitched on

Hahaha slice I did well and truly muller it but the odd thing is there was still a stub of a screw in the bottom so have filled it with sealant gave jets a clean too bolted it all back together and it now runs sweet tick over spot on revs freely nice puffs of smoke so dont no what happened there have managed to buy another front section of a carb off ebay with a rounded off screw so am going to attempt it again when it arrives.also why does the carb have so many breathers and overflows.now onto next problem but will start a new thread.

had idea if i was to empty the 2 stroke oil bottle and premix it in the tank.surely then the mixture screw would be made redundant and the bike would idle properly.do u think this would work.how much 2 stroke to petrol would i need to put in

time for a new carb tried for ages trying to drill it tried using easy out tried using extractor and tried knocking allen key in screw is now well and truly mullered or whats left of it also managed to break the alloy recess it sits in quite far down past the o ring.wheres the cheapest place to get another carb from.thanks

After 2 hours of trying to remove it have taken carb off and am going to try drilling it tomorrow and tapping in a allen key socket hopefully it will come out or new carb.really does annoy me why people are so tight all they had to do was pay 13 quid for new mixture and it would of saved all this work instead of forcing it all the way in anyways does anyone know how to get air box off cos it will make putting carb back on alot easier undone the one bolt on bottom of frame but cant find anymore and it will only move a few mm Thanks

Thanks have put the castrol in now so will run it and see if it turns grey again hopefully not

Picked up my new mixture screw for the dtr today as the old one had broken off at the end which sits inside carb and they decided to crqmn it in went ro remove it tonight and cant getvit to budge and its starting to round off.is there anyway off getting to it from insidw the carb. Thanks

yamaha recommend a 10w30 engine oil according to haynes and has 10w30 stamped on engine casing.is this different to a normal car oil.sorry when u said gear oil i thought u meant something like ep80w90 or atf aqm fluid.thanks

Havent put it in yet used to have a rd125 lc and tzr and always used 10w40 engine oil in that what gear oil do u recommend we do 80w90 but 2 types gl4 and gl5 what type would u use

Just too add indicators are a cheap aftermarket replace ment fitted by previous owner

Have fixed for the moment by cutting the rev gauge bulb out of the loom and connecting to power feed of sidw light bit of a bodge but got other things to do on thw list at the mo.will properly fix it when I get a chance also neutral light isnt working tested bulb holder and no power going to it any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks while oil was draining removed the left panel ro see what was behind it.found the expansion tank which is filthy also someone decided to use a sports bottle cap like you get on bottled water as a cap for the tank lol.might have ro find a replacement bottle and cap also water in rad is a nice clean blue colour wheres water in expansion bottle is clear does this mean the two connected systwms arent mixing will this cause me any problems

Br8es or br9es plug for dt 125
Normally in its standard restricted form a br8es would be used as the plug runs slightly hotter if its been derestricted or modified performance wise go for a br9es as it is slightly cooler plug or a br9eix which is the iridium version

Ok will use the 10w40 thanks for advice I have 1l of 10w40 in garage and have also got 5l of 5w30 fully synthetic which I was going to use for the car.would it do it any harm to fill it with 5w30 get it up to temperature then repeat. Then fill with 750 ml of the 10w40

Will do have got some 10w40 semi is that the best thing to use have seen people recommending gear oil but have always used 10w40 engine oil in 2 strokes and have always been ok

Will see if I can get a chance to remove cover tomoro and let u know if I find anything theres no unusual noises which is odd though.
