The saga continues.....
Yes, thats the word I was looking for, tower, thanks. Thats what has sheared off and initial searching of the net doesn't throw any up. I'll continue to search over the weekend but as it looks at the moment it seems that breaking the bike for parts will be my best option. What makes it worse is I've got the bike for sale on eBay at the moment, it's up to £400 which is very close to what I want and now I'll have to remove it, damn.

The saga continues.....
I dont think Ive explained clearly enough which bit is broken, really need to take apicture to explain fully. There are six protruding sleeves that the bolts fasten into, the bolts that hold down the springs, its one of these sleeves that has sheared off.

Erm, I don't know ? One of the six studs (?) that the bolts go into (the bolts that go through the springs) has snapped. Is the alloy basket permanently attached to the cogged wheel, can they be split ? Thanks for your reply.

The saga continues.....
Well after my much detailed rebuild of the engine and inability to get it going it now runs, quite well actually. But then...... Clank, it stopped, didn't sound good, kickstart jammed ! Took side casing off to discover that one of the clutch basket bolts had snapped in its sleeve, sleeve and bolt detached from basket !! It happened because the pressure plate wasn't seated properly and the whole plate would have been wobbling whilst spinning, something had to give. So I need a clutch basket now, anyone got one just lying around ? Cheers.

DT175 start up after rebuild
It definately needs a new plug, it's an old denso that's in there at the moment, I've got 3 b8es plugs and non will spark? Just been back out and after a dozen or so kicks wahay it started, nice tickover and crisp blips, it's a bugger to start but it does start, phew. Thanks for the advice.

DT175 start up after rebuild
Overflow isn't blocked because when I leave it on the side stand with the fuel tap on, petrol pours out ? As an update, a mate and I have just bump started it down the road ! After about 30 yards it coughed spluttered and started ! Gently blipped the throttle and left it ticking over for 5 mins, turned it off, kicked it again started straight away, yay ! No wait, left it half an hour, tried to start it again, nothing, zilch, damn. Don't you love these simple 2 strokes ?

DT175 start up after rebuild
Tried to start it, no luck, occasional small backfire and tiny tiny fire up for about 1 second but that's it. Got a spark, got compression, blocked carb? I have an inline clear fuel filter fitted and strangely despite fuel flowing freely from the tap, when I connect the pipe no fuel flows down into the filter until I disconnect the other end from the carb ?

DT175 start up after rebuild
No, not fired it up yet. Going to get a new plug tomorrow and fill with gearbox oil (hopefully no leaks), and add a bit of 2 stroke oil into the petrol to ease my mind a little, then give it a kick ! Still not sure how to set the timing tho' ??!

DT175 start up after rebuild
I've got four newish b8es plugs and non of them work ! Tried them in other bikes and nothing ? Are they just poorly made these days ?

Thanks for your help, oil ? Spark plug?

B8es is the correct plug, right? What oil is recommend for the gearbox. I have a Haynes manual but is more geared toward the earlier points bikes ?

DT175 start up after rebuild
Well I' m scared, the rebuild is finished after holing the piston last year, whilst its been off the road I've redone the paint work, painted the frame and loads of other little jobs, but I can't avoid it no longer I'm going to have to try and start it sooner or later ! A couple of things have me concerned though, how do I get oil from the oil tank to the carb, I.e. how do I bleed the pump ? I've got clear lines so I can see if oil is making its way up but at the moment theyre bone dry and there's no way I'm going to start it with no oil getting in there, would running premix for the first start up be OK ? I know these bikes are CDI but how do I know the timing is right before start up ? I've put the stator back on in the position it came off with the lines lining up, is that it ? I'm so so scared of holing another piston that I need to get these things right, thanks for any help, cheers.

Dt175mx crank seal question
Hi all, starting to put the engine back together and I've got a couple of questions. Firstly I've put the new main bearings into the crankcases, do the seals go in now as well or when it's all mated up ? And on the subject of mating the halfs together, whats a good gasket sealant ? I've heard yamabond mentioned but it seems to be unavailable in the Uk ?, certainly none on eBay. Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Break or fix ?
Hi, I've got a DT 175 mx 1979, my woes are detailed elsewhere on the forum namely a holed piston. I'm really struggling with fixing this and got to thinking whether it appears worth all the hassle and maybe breaking it would realise more money than repairing it? As I see it the value of the parts is approx Frame and engine, with v5,matching numbers but engine in bits -£100 Wheels, brand new rims, spokes and tyres -£60 Seat, new cover fitted-£30 Forks -£30 Tank, resprayed with new decals and lacquered- £50 Side panels, front mud guard, rear mud guard, repainted, lacquered, £40 Clocks £30 Lights, horn £30 Handlebars £10 And that's that! Not even £400, so repair it is then, surely a dt175 running or not is worth £600 ?
